  1. RIP. I remember them fondly from the 60s.
  2. Thanks. Just thinking of the day when I might have to sell my collection.
  3. I’m curious, if you don’t mind me asking. If you were living in Santa Fe then did they pick it up or did you ship it to them?
  4. The RSD site says the vinyl is limited to 4,000 and the CD to 2,000. The recording is coming from the Iconic Artists Group which may own the musics assets of the Cole Estate and whose mission seems to be to promote their artists. Some of these smaller companies that make titles for RSD, based on past practice, don’t seem as interested in wider exploitation as say a Resonance.
  5. I assume this counts as madness but since I’m not one to go after original pressings this may or may not be crazy but an original pressing of Blue Train sold yesterday for $12,600. https://www.ebay.com/itm/296243318459?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=SR8ECHeEQn2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=8Clsqs3wSRS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  6. The RSD site says that the CDs (as well as the vinyl) are RSD exclusive. That may mean that you can only get them at the participating stores. One thing I’ve found is that you can usually find RSD titles at close to retail price online (Discogs and eBay) after the RSD date.

    RIP Richard Lewis

I watched the latest episode which included Richard Lewis for a few minutes and I have no idea when they filmed the episode but he looked pretty bad, nothing like he had looked like in the most recent season.
  8. The Holmes albums may be unsurprising. Some of his later efforts seem to get away from his soul jazz beginnings.
  9. The issue I have is that if I have the cd of a Tone Poet or a Classic, I don’t want to duplicate what I have but will make exceptions.
  10. That’s the problem this book is going to have.
  11. There’s been a little but not a lot of discussion about the Muse catalogue (around 500 records) which is owned by Craft through their acquisition of Savoy in 2017, which acquired it from 32 Jazz in 2002. Craft has done nothing with it and when I asked about it those marketing fools don’t know what I’m talking about. I talked to Scott but it’s not on their radar. I think it’s “criminal” that, aside from 32 Jazz and the Shaw Mosaic, nothing has been done with this humongous catalogue I peppered him with emails to get them to at least think about something. However, I think it’s better to talk to Michael about this than Scott. Can someone send me his email. Initially, I don’t expect a different result but you have to keep at it with them as I’m sure they receive a lot of suggestions.
  12. I see there is a new book coming out about Miles, Coltrane and Evans. The only review I can find is in the Wall Street Journal by Gerald Early but since I don’t subscribe to the WSJ, I can’t read it. Here’s the blurb from the publisher, Random House, Three Shades of Blue

    RIP Richard Lewis

That’s why the show is popular! My favorite bit is when he uses the doctor’s phone.
  14. I sort of feel like Ken Dryden about not buying LPs if I have the CDs (although I’ve made a few exceptions). Feel the same way about constantly reissuing new CDs just to get a teeny better sound but to each his own.

    RIP Richard Lewis

I disagree about the early episodes. It was great from the beginning. Larry David reminds me of a lot of people I’ve known. He’s a pain in the ass and he’s a kvetcher. I also think it helps if you’re Jewish; you understand the show a bit more.
  16. Here’s a list of cd releases. Cannonball Adderley Burnin' In Bordeaux: Live in France 1969 - Elemental Music (CD) Cannonball Adderley Poppin' In Paris: Live At L'Olympia 1972 - Elemental Music (CD) Chet Baker/Jack Sheldon In Perfect Harmony: The Lost Album - Jazz Detective (CD) Brother Jack McDuff Ain't No Sunshine - Reel To Real (CD) Nat King Cole Live At The Blue Note Chicago - Iconic Artists Group (CD) Yusef Lateef Atlantis Lullaby: The Concert From Avignon -Elemental Music (CD) Shelly Manne Jazz From The Pacific Northwest - Reel To Real (CD) Sonny Rollins Freedom Weaver: The 1959 European Tour Recordings - Resonance (CD) Sun Ra Pink Elephants on Parade - Modern Harmonic (CD) Art Tatum Jewels In The Treasure Box: The 1953 Chicago Blue Jazz Club Recordings - Resonance (CD) Mal Waldron/Steve Lacy The Mighty Warrior: Live In Antwerp - Elemental Music (CD) The two Craft issues, based on previous history, will not be released in cd although I’m sure many of us have the Bill Evans. The Pike disc has been previously reissued on cd but it’s been awhile.
  17. Here’s a video going over the various titles.
  18. I just finished episode 1 of the most recent season. I received an email from PBS that it’s been renewed for two more seasons. Did you ever see the original series. That was quite good.
  19. That’s the culture for you today. Let no good deed go unpunished.
  20. I hope he’s ok. I really enjoy his book postings.
  21. That’s what I was going to say.
