  1. And the 'First Impulse : The Creed Taylor Collection' for Euro 26.02.
  2. Agreed! I thought he was great in 'Life'.
  3. Not sure this qualifies, more AOR I guess, but love this by Alessi.
  4. Not a bad pre-order price at Amazon UK. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005ORVN1O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE For those outside Europe, after VAT is deducted, that is a little over $2.50 per CD. Pretty sure I could sell any duplicates at that price or higher to Disk Union here in Tokyo.
  5. This looks like a nice box of film noir soundtracks: http://www.moochinabout.com/jazz.html
  6. Anyone know anything about this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005NNJKPA/ref=s9_simh_gw_p15_d0_g15_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0VMYY7T8KKT1V85YJKYT&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294 This is one in a series that includes Louis and Ella among others. Looks official and seems to be multi label. The pricing is attractive but there are no details on any of the amazon pages.
  7. You have a point about the referee but I think a lot of that falls into the category of 'home field advantage'. Otherwise your post has a pro-French bias which does not coincide with my view of the game as a neutral. I thought it was incredibly tense and exciting and, looking at the tournament as a whole, the All Blacks are deserved world champions (and by the way, my take on the Richie McCaw incident is that it was not intentional).
  8. Might be worth cancelling and pre-ordering with Amazon Italy! http://www.amazon.it/Movin-Complete-Verve-Studio-Recordings/dp/B005CAAUGM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1317794847&sr=1-1
  9. Indeed! If I am in town will try and make one of the gigs. Expensive though, the cheapest tickets are around $110 and that is only for one set.
  10. Spent most of the Virgin flight from London to Tokyo at the upper class bar with the current Uriah Heep line up late last year. Had a blast, but too hung over to use the invite to their concert that evening!
  11. Jim, well said. My thoughts exactly. I actually enjoy the more contentious threads. As you say, it can all be a bit boring without them.
  12. Not at all, "Norwegian Wood" and "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" are excellent too. BTW he is a jazz and vinyl lover, so I tend to be forgiving about him...just joking he's great writer. I didn't like all his works, but, Dostoyevsky and Conrad a part, I could say the same for every writers. Thanks for the recs. Read about 25 pages of The Wind-up Bird Chronicle in a book store this afternoon, so that will be my next Murakami. Then I'll move on to the ones you mentioned. Pretty much love all Murakami. Favourites not mentioned include "A Wild Sheep Chase", "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "South of the Border, West of the Sun".
  13. Very nice piece from the Guardian. Worth reading the comments that follow. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2011/sep/12/hot-five-seven-louis-armstrong
  14. Right. Fasstrack seems to be confused. Chuck is owed an apology.
  15. Recently picked up 'Buddy DeFranco and Oscar Peterson play George Gershwin' and 'This is Tal Farlow' for a little over $3.00 each which seems quite reasonable.
  16. This set is now available for pre-order on all the Amazon Euro sites at attractive prices. Amazon UK seems to be the cheapest at 17.5 pounds. After deducting VAT that is less than $29 including shipping to the US and slighly higher for me. Maybe time to cancel those Amazon.com orders!
  17. Looks like a Qantas logo just above her right shoulder. Olivia Newton John?
  18. SecondSpin have another good promotion until this Friday, 20% off all orders over $25 plus free shipping (including international). Last I looked, the Art Pepper 'Village Vanguard' and Joe Henderson 'Milestone' boxes were both available at $15.99 and $16.99 respectively.
  19. Really? So Bird did too (have it comin')?!? - & many others. Maybe I misunderstand your comment. Seems a little cold. At any rate, I thought she had much potential. I'll miss hearing what might have been. Absolutely agree. I had the same reaction. Hopefully, it was not intended as it came across. Boy, the thing about potential. That's so right on... just a killer. Not only Winehouse, but all the others. What is it about celebrity that pushes people to and beyond the brink? Seemed to me she had a death wish and was on a mission to do herself in. That might be cold, but since others comments of 'not being surprised' don't merit the same reaction... Also, Amy Winehouse was not Bird, nor Billie. Where's the compassion? All so very sad. Maybe no Bird, nor Billie, but 'Back to Black' is one of the finest albums of the last decade. Her potential was enormous.
  20. Very sorry to hear this. Love 'Ballads for Trane', a desert island disc for me.
  21. Yes, that would be nice. Especially as Chuck already started a separate 'mp3 bargains' thread.
  22. Tower Records in Shibuya actually had a decent sale, but not unfortunately for jazz. Anyway, bought the following CD's for around $3.50 each. David Bowie - Aladdin Sane Todd Rundgren - Faithful Big Star - Live
  23. Agreed! I made the same request a couple of weeks ago and others seemed to have the same opinion.
