  1. I (perhaps self-consciously) prefer to think of it as "contemplative", "spiritual" or the like...🤣
  2. Thanks. The jazz/free jazz label doesn't bother me, I think a lot of later Togashi recordings don't fit neatly into those bins. For instance, I'm likely to purchase A Day of the Sun (with Isao Suzuki) which might be subject to the same qualifier.
  3. Has anyone heard any of the Togashi-(Yuji) Takahashi duo recordings? There's Twilight (1977) plus live recordings from 1988, 1989 (which adds Haruna Miyake) and 1995. Curious about these, have only managed to listen to part of Twilight, which isn't too convincing. Would ordinarily order one or two sight unseen, but have some doubts concerning the electronics (synthesizer).
  4. Lee Pan Geun & The Korea Jazz Quintet 78 -- Plays Arirang & Other Assorted Classics
  5. Strongly agreed. I always thought Miles's involvement with that autobiography consisted of speaking into a tape recorder for a few hours.
  6. Yes, I'm attracted to all their German festival collections, but this is the only one I bought, before hearing about the label's dodginess. I also own a few single CDs from the label. Very strangely, they feature attractive packaging which is generally not characteristic of boot/pirate outfits. I have seen a claim to the effect that the collections trace back to the family who legitimately own the master tapes, but I'm not sure how credible that is.
  7. I rather like Dauner (though not his heavily electrified stuff), so had a listen on Youtube. Well, this album is exactly what I don't care for, and I bailed after less than five minutes. Ouch.
  8. Bun E. Carlos Wendy Carlos Barbara Walters
  9. I didn't keep any records either. Kind of ashamed to say that (after living about an hour away for 20+ years) that I've never even attended a concert at the Levon Helm Studios...between travel and the fact I don't listen to those types of performers so often. I think the fabled "Big Pink" house in Saugerties has been maintained as some kind of luxury rental. 😆
  10. I have all the recordings in this series, but don't listen to them enough.
  11. There's a boatload of free jazz interview footage that shows really alarming sets of teeth. I find it striking and more than a little scary. As a fan of many of the musicians, will pass on dropping any more names.
  12. I'll put in a word for McPherson's Xanadu recordings as well. I like the Arabesque recordings that I've heard. Particularly fond of this Prestige, one of his recordings I listen to most often:
  13. I couldn't help noticing Silva's teeth in a free jazz documentary. [I thought I had it bookmarked, but apparently not...was it "Inside out in the open?" Somebody once posted a link on the forum and I watched the whole film.] Not sure how leverageable! They certainly wouldn't serve as a recruiting poster for free jazz as a career. 😢
  14. Me too. Some ambitious quant should develop a "vinyl price index". 😄 Something analogous to various crypto indices, S&P Global Luxury Index, fixed-income (bond) indices, etc. Maybe it already exists, but I'm not into vinyl and haven't seen anything. There's already a luxury watch price index, for instance, but that was probably easier to set up since it uses 60 models from 10 well-known brands. I'd be interested in seeing graphs of a "vinyl index" vs. luxury watches, housing prices, crypto, etc. [Added] Scarcity of the underlying vinyl seems much more important than the art. For instance, Alan Silva's 4-CD "Treasure Box" package doesn't sell at much of a premium to the 4 plain vanilla CDs. Hmm...maybe I should buy a bunch of the Silva boxes? 🤣...No way!
  15. Judging from age-group sports, there are plenty of folks who, via juicing with HGH, other hormones and God knows what else, think they are holding the aging process at bay. 🤔
  16. 🤣Heading for Kind of Blue status? I think it's somewhat risible that all these megabuck "Audiophile" releases seem to be targeted at aging boomers with deteriorating hearing...but they sure got disposable income!
  17. It's happening in many areas, not just LPs. For instance, high-end bicycles have become absolutely ridiculous. Every mfr. seems to have a $15,000 (or more) flagship model, and $500 seems to be the number for high-zoot handlebars, or shoes, or saddle, or helmet, or "oversized pulley wheels", ... And you're hopeless without hydraulic disc brakes and electronic shifting! Rim brakes and mechanical shifting are practically extinct. 🤣 I used to play hockey, and same deal. I recently noticed to my astonishment that high-end pro hockey skates top out around a grand. 🤔
