  1. Thanks Allen....I did get your email and already pushed the PayPal button. Looking forward to exploring some (for me) totally new areas of Blues history.

    Piano Men

Damn, how could I forget Ahmad Jamal? (Live at the Pershing Lounge?)

    Piano Men

Way too many to list....but must include the following: Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Hank Jones, Herbie Nichols, Elmo Hope, Roland Hanna, Tommy Flanagan, McCoy Tyner, Kenny Barron, Horace Parlan, Red Garland, Stanley Cowell, Denny Zeitlin, and Renee Rosnes.
  4. Just a small PayPal contribution from a longtime lurker who has learned so much here. Thanks....and don't sweat the small stuff (like inflated egos, fragile self-images, and those damned, persistent prejudices). It really is all about the music.
  5. Lots of contenders from the early-mid 70's....but the winner has to be Led Zeppelin, Seattle Center Coliseum in 1973.
  6. Tough decision, but intriguing to think about. My current favorite big box sets are: 1. Woody Shaw 2. Andrew Hill 3. Jazztet But I couldn't live without these Selects: 1. McCoy Tyner 2. Tony Williams 3. Charles Tolliver 4. Bobby Hutcherson
  7. I know that for many this is a tough time to be expending cash and expanding the collection, but I just noticed that there appears to be some decent price reductions (40-60%) on J&R's website on box-sets. Last day of a three day weekend sale.
  8. In addition to the Coltrane and Garland versions on my iPod, I have the following: Stan Getz/Kenny Barron People Time Stan Getz East of the Sun Lee Konitz Mosaic Tristano, Konitz, Marsh Set Harold Land Promised Land Hampton Hawes Four! Elmo Hope Elmo Hope Trio Duke Pearson Profile The Drummonds (w/ Renee Rosnes) When You Wish Upon a Star Cecil Taylor Hard Drivin' Jazz Art Farmer Modern Art Art Blakey/Jazz Messengers Like Someone In Love After a quick dip into the various versions....the ones that stick-out are the Hawes, the Hope, the Farmer, and the Blakey.
  9. By the way, Concord has the eleven disc Dexter Gordon Complete Prestige Box marked down from $139.98 to $99.98. Using the coupon brings the price down to $79.98 with free ground shipping. Not a bad deal.
