  1. I may have to revisit this one ...again. Didn't really think much of it to be honest. I know it's had great reviews. I even read somewhere it was his highest charting album!! now playing, Herb Robertson Brass Ensemble - Shades of Bud Powell (JMT/Polydor)
  2. Oliver Nelson - Afro/American Sketches
  3. I'm in! Was going to play something else, but oh well... (disc1)
  4. Quarteto Lopes-Graca again, this time playing Lopes-Graca - naturally! String Quartet no.2 (Toccata Classics)
  5. Couple of cds from the following Cécile Ousset box CD1 French music - Debussy, etc CD7 Beethoven - Diabelli variations
  6. What a fine Edition (the Schubert/Goerne) this was (is)! Edit - I meant to 'multi quote' the excellent Sehnsucht disc you posted as well. NP: Braga Santos - String Quartets/Sextet (Toccata Classics)
  7. Oh yes it is! I think this performance is wonderful as well. I like Isabelle Faust very much and have most of her recordings. This and her Bartok recordings are favourites. EDIT: yes, as Mr. soulpope commented it is excellent indeed playing Bartok now,
  8. Thank you for asking, much appreciated Yes all good, though busy. Locked up at home like most everyone, though Australia hasn't been hit as hard as some others. Hope you're well too and keeping safe. Thoughts to the others on the forum as well. On the plus side, I do have more time for music and reading... now playing more vocal works (Koechlin) Holliger w. Juliane Banse
  9. Second felser's comments about Ace Records! I have their 3 volume "Birth of Surf" compilations. The well known tracks are there (mostly on Vol.1) along with the obligatory (for Ace) rare/first time on CD recordings on the other volumes. I prefer Vol.1. The booklets are decent with some brief notes about each track/artist. Vol.1, https://www.amazon.com/Birth-Surf-Various-Artists/dp/B000PATZQ0 and the others (scroll down) https://acerecords.co.uk/various-artists-birth-of-surf
  10. Thanks for the heads up about that thread. Hopefully soon I'll have more time as well.
  11. Yes indeed! Been a while, almost forgot how much I enjoy this one. now playing,
  12. Bernie McGann - Ugly Beauty (Rufus Records)
  13. Even in Italy, his orders were not given to him explicitly, but Frank knew/knows exactly what is required of him. A trait not lost on Russell of course! His daughter's character was one of the most interesting for me. She managed to 'say' so much in this movie without hardly speaking! Also interesting how she seems to dislike Russell from the very start. Dislike or fear.
  14. Larry, the prisoners are definitely wearing German uniforms (miltary). The insignias are on the collar and breast. Apparently Frank was just "following orders" or so he recounts to Russell in the preceding scene.
  15. Very much so! And a belated thanks Now playing, more Sam Cooke
  16. I second this... Mr. Soulpope has certainly cost me a few dollars! Now playing, Syl Johnson - Complete Mythology (Numero Group)
  17. New Orleans (1947) features Louis Armstrong with Billie Holiday, Woody Herman and also the Original New Orleans Ragtime Band (Kid Ory, Red Callender, etc). Paris Blues - Louis Armstrong (again!) and Michel Portal. Man With The Golden Arm (Sinatra) has Shelly Manne and Shorty Rogers and his Giants.
