Is it my imagination or is the Golson show no long listed? I saw this and went "huh?" cuz I already bought tickets! If you were looking at the South Florida Jazz Society website, that would be the wrong one. Its the Gold Coast Jazz Society that's hosting this one. Click. Whew! Thanks!

Is it my imagination or is the Golson show no long listed?

Have seen him twice in the last 13 months. First was 11/04 in Hollywood, FL with Stanley Clarke and found him somewhat disappointing. The second time was in Chicago about 6 weeks ago with Charnett Moffett and Eric Gravatt, and they were AMAZING. Played a few of his older songs as well as a Ellington tune. If it's the same band, you're in for a treat.

I definitely am doing Zeitlin & Hayes in November. Play to attend a few of the others, schedule permitting. The Henderson-Hicks is of particular interest to me. Are they through the South Florida Jazz Society?

Am heading up to Chicago mid-October and hope to catch McCoy Tyner at the Showcase the Sunday nite I'm there. Anyone know what time their Sunday shows are? Website doesn't give times other than the matinee.

My first was the Woody Shaw. Heard some of it on the radio in NYC while up there on business in the early 90s. Went into J&R and asked about it, at which time I found about Mosaic. Ordered it before I went home and have been buying them ever since. Still have them all.

You know that's not going to happen. Coltrane is Impulse's cash cow. Start saving for the 3 disc "Super Ultimate Edition" of ALS along with the 2 disc "Coltrane/Hartman" set. I'll complain but will buy them both.

Good article. Have downloaded hundreds of shows over the past 9-10 months. Now if I only had the time to listen to them all!

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations. Ended up at the Jazz Showcase earlier this evening (despite Uli's tempting post) to see Eric Reed's trio who played a very nice set of standards, the highlight being "Well, You Needn't". On Mon. nite I also managed to catch an excellent local act, the Ryan Cohan Trio at a restaurant in Evanston, where I am staying. Played a great cover of Randy Weston's "Little Niles".

If you have access to a car, I'd recommend Yoshi's in Oakland.

Thanks for all the info. Will try to get to either JRM and/or DG while in town. Managed to spend some quality time at Amoeba Records while in San Fran last summer so maybe I'll be just as fortunate this year.

Thanks guys. Taking/dragging my wife and possibly kids (17 and 20) with me so if it's "smokey", I'd better pass. Took her to the Vanguard years ago and everytime I mention the place, all she remembers is the smoke filled room. Saw Eric Reed back in November with Bobby Hutcherson and was much more impressed than what I had heard on record by him. Should be cool.

At the Amaturo theater next to the Broward Center for the performing arts. Very nice location, and here's a little secret: the room is small enough that you don't need to pay extra for the seats in the main section, which are kinda on the small side as far as leg room goes. At the top of the room, the C Section is a single row of seats, and they aren't theater-style seats, they're arm chairs, with a little counter in front of you. SO MUCH more comfortable, the room is so small you don't complain at all about the view, and they're the cheapest seats available! ← Thanks for the tip. Glad it's Ft. L as opposed to Miami. Nope. You're probably thinking of the live track (Escape Velocity) which was included on Woody III, a studio album. It was not included in the Mosaic.

Actually, it went from "Last Chance" (a higher level of alert than "Running Low") to sold out in eight days, FWIW, but it still went relatively quickly. ← From my Father's Day email from Mosaid of only two days ago: "RUNNING LOW/LAST CHANCE We have just added The Complete Blue Note Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Studio Sessions to our Running Low category. " ← Then you missed this thread I started eight days ago when I first noticed the Byrd/Adams set in the "Last Chance" category on Mosaic's site (I try to check it daily). ← I haven't visited Organissimo in a while. Wasn't listed as a LC or RL the last time I checked Mosaic a few weeks back. Guess I have to be more diligent in my checking.

Don't know why. Didn't tell me when they replied to my email. This release does include three tracks not on the original LP, including Escape Velocity which is from Woody III. The balance of Woody III, all studio tracks, appeared on the Shaw Mosaic. The other two bonus tracks seem to have been previously unissued. On a side note, I was told Theme for Maxine, which appeared on the LP but doesn't appear on the CD track list, will be included, presumably added to the end of one of the other tracks.

Everything Marty said and more. Was not acquainted with Ozone and had taken Burton for granted prior to this. Won't make that mistake again. In fact, just ordered their album "Virtuosi" which they played a few tracks from. As Burton has recently become a South Florida resident, I'm hoping to see him perform again soon.
