  1. Found a nice bargain! Thank you Ebay, I'll have to reserve final judgement for when I actually get the item.
  2. An excellent and enjoyable podcast. Desmond is one of my favorite alto sax players of all time. Having heard the show, I now want to dig out some of my Desmond CDs and give them a listen.
  3. I know that there are a lot of these 10 DVD box sets available out there both new and used but I thought I would take a (long)shot here in hopes of finding a bargain. Perhaps you have one and have had your fill or you are not as appreciative as you could be of Burns' vision and scope presented in this documentary and it's just going to collect dust on your shelf. I'd be looking for something in very good to like new condition - no playback issues of course. If you have one that you'd be willing to let go, drop me a PM and maybe we could work something out.
  4. Queen Victoria knew exactly where the North Pole was...and what happened there....
  5. Kashmere Stage Band - Texas Thunder Soul: 1968-1974 [Deluxe Edition, 2-CD/1 DVD] Has anyone purchased anything from Disc-O-Rama Overstock.com? I've never heard of them before but I discovered they were selling this for $10.99. When I put it in my cart, I noticed that they applied a $5 discount and the shipping was free so I only paid $5.99. (It was listed as new, factory sealed.) That's a pretty nice deal! I hope they're a dependable seller and that this pans out.
  6. Bump with a price reduction. Total price delivered to a U.S. address - $40.00.
  7. Bump with a price reduction. Total price delivered to a U.S. address - $45.00.
  8. Description from the Bear Family Records web site: Later the elder statesman of bluegrass, Bill Monroe's stature was universally recognized by the '70s. He was still making fine music, and attracting the cream of the young musicians. This set includes the 'Bean Blossom' album, as well as eight other original MCA/Decca LPs. The 'Uncle Pen' album, included here, is generally recognized as one of his all-time best. The 90 recordings on this set also feature the young lions of bluegrass music, like Marty Stuart, alongside veterans like Jim & Jesse and Kenny Baker. The CDs and the box set contents are like new. The box itself is solid but shows signs of normal shelf wear. The best price on Amazon when you take into account what you'd pay for delivery is $58.00. I'm asking for $49.00 $45.00 $40.00 total delivered to a U.S. address. I'll see that it's packaged securely and you'll be provided with a tracking number. If you are interested or have any questions, please PM me. Thanks for looking!
  9. Nesmith is definitely a better singer but after that, I don't know... This is just another provocative statement that'll ultimately come down to personal preferences. For me, strip everything away except for the music and I'd be picking Parsons every time.
  10. Ray Charles - The Spirit Of Christmas
  11. Another option I've been enjoying is Pandora.com. I think I just typed in "Christmas carols" which plays a lot of Christmas choral music. I'm kind of surprised at how refreshing it is to listen to this kind of stuff because it's not played to death on the radio. Beautiful stuff...
  12. Oy! That album should have been titled "World Gone Wrong" vol. 2.
  13. These discs will make it into the player every year.
  14. Some of mine have already been mentioned. The songs that make my list: -Happy Christmas War Is Over (John Lennon) -Wonderful Christmas Time (Paul McCartney) -Santa Baby (by anyone) -Do They Know It's Christmas (Band Aid) -The Christmas Shoes (This song should be a justifiable basis for prosecution.) -Anything by Mannheim Steamroller -Carol Of The Bells (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) About 30 seconds in it sounds like background music for a giant hoard of Huns riding horseback as they attack an unsuspecting village. Maybe they wish the villagers happy holidays as they slay, rape and pillage...) -I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas -All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth -Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer -Snoopy's Christmas -Mary Did You Know? (Yes, she did...)
  15. That is Volume 8 of Dylan's Bootleg Series, and Volume 11 was released this November. So Volume 8 has been around for a while. I agree that it is quite good. I was somewhat surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It inspired me to buy 2 more releases from The Bootleg Series and I'm auditioning a couple more I found in the library.
  16. Bob Dylan: Tell Tale Signs: The Bootleg Series Vol. 8
  17. Walk Off The Earth - R.E.V.O. This would definitely be on the pop side of things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHvl6z56zGc
  18. Had to do it, couldn't help myself. (on CD, not vinyl)
  19. I've been on a Bob Dylan kick lately. I've never been more than a casual fan and until now, the only work of his in my collection was the 3-CD "Biograph" and "Oh Mercy". Out of curiosity while at the library the other day I checked out The Bootleg series vol.8 "Tell Tale Signs: Rare And Unreleased 1989-2006". I've given it a listen and the music is really clicking with me. I liked it so much I bought my own copy along with "The Bootleg Series, Vols. 1-3 : Rare And Unreleased, 1961-1991". Now I'm giving serious consideration to The Bootleg Series vol 11 - "The Basement Tapes Raw", and vol. 10, "Another Self Portrait (1969-1971)".
  20. I'm definitely interested. If you're keeping a mailing list for it, put me on it or I'll just keep my eye out here if you announce them for sale.
  21. I kinda got hooked on it when having lunch at a Mexican restaurant where they always had this type of music playing. It got me to wondering why it seemed to have many of the same elements as polka music. I looked into it a bit and as it turns out, way back in the day, there were a lot of Czech and German immigrants who settled along the U.S. and Mexican border. Inevitably, the cultures mixed and one of the results was this type of music.
  22. Art Pepper: The Hollywood All-Star Sessions It's nice to have these "sideman" sessions together in one collection. I think the Japanese were largely responsible for Art's latter career resurgence and popularity. I gotta thank them for making these sessions possible.
