  1. Sometimes you'll find great deals like that. I don't know if it's done intentionally for short periods of time or if it's a temporary glitch. About 4 years I got a new/sealed Bill Evans' Complete Fantasy Recordings box set for $27.00 delivered from Amazon, not a marketplace seller. Whenever I'm interested in something, I put it on Amazon's wish list and check it regularly. It's surprising on how the price can fluctuate on some items. Both the things I put on my Amazon wish list skyrocketed to hundreds of pounds within days MG Bummer! Keep watching and the price will probably come around again. I had a book I was looking for go as high as $175.00. I look now and it can be had for less than $30.00. The price fluctuations are crazy. Wish list price watching is a game of patience. Most of the stuff on mine is stuff I'm not going to need until somewhere down the road or stuff I could live without unless the price is right. Price watching can be pretty rewarding. I got the Oscar Peterson Mosaic box set from a marketplace seller for less than $20.00 delivered. Granted, it didn't have the box or booklet but for that price, it wasn't even remotely an issue. Looking at the set, it didn't appear it had been listened to much if at all.

  3. Don Fagerquist - Portrait Of A Great Jazz Artist
  4. Picked this up at Half Price Books for $4.50. Chet Baker & Stan Getz - West Coast Live (2-CD) I somehow discovered this one by accident and unfortunately the group only put out two releases which is a shame because these guys have a great sound. The Prestige CD pictured below contains all but 1 song from their two releases, The Modern Jazz Disciples and Right Down Front. There is also a Fresh Sounds release of the same material which includes the song missing from the Prestige release. I really dig their sound. Beside piano, bass and drums, the lead instruments are alto/tenor sax and the normaphone. I had no idea what a normaphone was and I discovered it's a slide trombone shaped like a sax. The Modern Jazz Disciples kind of remind me of The Jazz Crusaders. Check them out, this CD is well worth acquiring. The Modern Jazz Disciples - Disciple's Blues
  5. You Just Fight for Your Life: The Story of Lester Young by Frank Buchmann-Moller. You won't be disappointed. The Daniels book did nothing for me, I couldn't finish it.
  6. Junior Mance - Junior Mike Cuozzo - Mighty Mike Cuozzo (+Costa-Burke Trio)
  7. It wasn't too long ago. It was still $2.98 on my Amazon order placed April 9th. I think the new rates are too high. It's going to affect my buying patterns there.
  8. Whenever I watch shows with British accents (Doctor Who, Doc Martin, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, etc.) I find that I have to turn up the volume a bit louder and concentrate a bit more to catch what everyone is saying. I don't really have a problem with Game of Thrones and some shows are better than others but I happened to be watching the original Office last night and I really had to concentrate to catch what Ricky Gervais and some of the other characters were saying. I have to engage myself a bit more with British productions. It's interesting just to hear the variety of accents coming from England alone and then you start throwing in the Irish and Scottish accents as well it can sometimes be a challenge to catch everything. I love Game of Thrones but I'm not knowledgeable enough about the various accents to separate them out to what part of the country they came from. The Brits can probably point them out straight away.
  9. Yes, I realize that this set is still available via Mosaic. I'm interested in this set but not $50 interested in it so I'm hoping to find a better deal. Maybe you have one sitting around, unappreciated, collecting dust or you bought it and realize that it's not going to get the love it deserves. If you have one you'd like to let go, PM me and maybe we can work out a deal.
  10. often skeptical but hopeful

  11. I have them all - you're infer a treet! MG That's good to hear, I'm looking forward to hearing them. I really dig the bluesy soul in his playing. I love Southside Soul and Mr. Soul so I have little doubt I'm going to love the rest!
  12. John Wright Trio & Quartet (2-CD) I was very pleased to discover this set which contains the albums South Side Soul, Nice 'N Tasty, Makin' Out and The Last Amen. I already own South Side Soul and Mr. Soul so three of the four albums included will be new to me.
  13. I'm a big Pres fan and I own all 5 volumes. When I first listened to them, I was somewhat underwhelmed and didn't listen to them again for quite some time. A time came when I was trying to scrounge up some cash and I was considering selling them so I decided to give them another listen first. It was like I was hearing them with new ears. Despite the unremarkable trio, I thought all 5 volumes were well worth listening to and very enjoyable. I thought Pres was relaxed and in good form. The weakest link, in my opinion, was drummer Jim Lucht. He left me wishing Pres wasn't so generous with letting his band members make their statement. All in all, these aren't the first Pres recordings I would reach for, but they are well worth seeking out and listening to. I'd recommend them.
  14. I'ave never had one and would probably be hard pressed to find a barber who would even do one. For decades I've been shaving with the standard multiple blade disposables and canned cream. Shaving was always one of those unpleasant but necessary chores. Within the last year, I've gotten into shaving with the old style double edge razors with the disposable razor blades. I lather my face with a shaving brush using either a bar of shaving soap or shaving cream from a tube. What it's done is made shaving somewhat of a hobby and now I actually enjoy and look forward to shaving. To top it all off, I get great shaves as a result.
  15. Inglorious Basterds was worth watching for Cristoph Waltz's performance alone.
  16. I don't think it was QT's best but I think it would easily make the top half of his filmography list. I enjoyed it and thought that it was pretty entertaining. Cristoph Waltz is a gem and he was very good in this. He makes me want to seek out whatever project he might be involved in. I had my doubts about Leonardo DiCaprio but he was pretty good in this role as well.
  17. Second Spin had a 12 hour, 40% off sale yesterday when you purchased $30 (pre-discounted price) in used CDs so these came out to be less than $4 each. I think my CD collection is reaching a saturation point. Even at these prices, I really had to work at it to find enough titles I was willing to buy. Johnny Cash - Bootleg Volume 1: Personal File Leon Redbone - Christmas Island Best of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong Jimmy McGriff - Greatest Hits Bela Fleck - Tales From The Acoustic Planet
  18. Leon Redbone - On The Track / Double Time / No Regrets I've already listened to "No Regrets" and indeed, there are no regrets in having bought it.
  19. Thanks for the link. You're right, the model numbers are identical but there's a huge difference in price. $795.00 per your link vs. $199.00 on the other. The picture looks identical to the Pacific Rim cabinets as well which sell for $317.00. I'm wondering how these options compare to the Can-Ams.
  20. Has anyone here seen or heard of these CD cabinets? I like the price but there isn't a whole lot of information provided for them. Dimensions? Drawer capacity? Manufacturer? I already have a Can-Am cabinet and would like another but their prices are WAY too high. 3-drawer CD storage cabinet
