  2. I'm a big Gainsbourg fan and there already exists a DVD of him covering what he did on television. http://www.discostyle.com/serge_gainsbourg..._and_disco.html I doubt there is new ground to be broken with this shady offer.
  3. National League Washington Nationals Kenny Washington Kenny G G Gordon Liddy Jeff Gordon
  4. Mario Canonge trio. Pretty good Latin jazz trio. Quite a virtuoso piano player, the drummer Fanfan ? was also impressive.
  5. I listened to the first CD of the box set. Despite the hsss which are understandable considering that the music is 70 years old the sound is pretty good. Gotta say did not know much about the Prima of that era, so i basically listened to it with virgin ears. You could already ear in Prima's way of singing the entertainer that he'll become later in his life. Among the highlights of the first cd i have to mention It's the rythm in me quite reminiscing of Sing, sing, sing and the 4 cuts with Pee Wee Russell in the band. So far so good. I decide to write back the posts i've written to start a thread about that set, note to the mods you erase the thread i started.

  7. Received all my boxsets, It can rain, it can snow , i have my footy and my music, i'm all set.
  8. Loved her first album, saw her live when that album came out, to be polite let's just say she wasn't ready for prime time, to be nasty she wasn't ready for cable access. Hope for her she improved.
  9. Thanks, for the nice welcome, y'all. Don't remind me about the World Cup i still have an hangover from Les Bleus 's lost in the finals.
  10. I know a fellow from Scotland who calls football (aka soccer) "footy." On a football (soccer) forum based in Canada that i used to go on a regular basis the term was used a few times, i guess i picked it up from there. Don't remember if the posters using the expression were living in Australia or former Aussies.
  11. Have not received my CDs yet but i have received the invoice, for those who are keeping score here are the serial numbers of the boxset i ordered. Classic Capitol 3463 Pass 2633 Stitt 2309 Vaughan 2165 Donaldson 1471 Prima Manone 1336
  12. Dave Douglas comes up to my mind. Ingrid Jensen would be my pick for best in Canada
  13. I'll buy a boxset if the artists does interest me regardless whether i have already stuff from him. Gotta say it's more convenient buying those sets than buying individual cds of musicians and figuring out whether you already have it or not.
  14. I'm a fan of the genre and what they called alternative country. I would suggest Calexico, Lambchop and one of my favourite live band The Sadies. For the girls i suggest Neko Case and Kathryn Williams.
  15. Ike Quebec Blue Note 45 sessions. What a great sond he had.
  16. The music in some case maybe overrated but it remains the only way to access in that fashion an ensemble of music that would be pretty hard to get otherwise. Seriously do you know a lot of companies who would work out a box set of guys like Horace Parlan. Mosaic is overrated like Mozart is overrated it wouldn't the same without him.
  17. Well to quote Fats Domino, Ain't that a shame...
  18. Do they sell outside of USA, try to join but i did not find a way to give them my address, emailed them and have not yet received anything either ?
  19. With those i ordered with the last special i now own 17 of them
  20. Just bought this for 27 $ #121 The Complete Blue Note 45 Sessions of Ike Quebec (2 CDs )
  21. Hi i live in Montreal, so i can give you some infos. Sam the record Man is no more, HMV and Archambault on Ste Catherine have a good selection. I suggest you hit the used cd store Cheap Thrills also there is a bunch of used cd stores on Mont-Royal st that are worth checking out. For local jazz acts i suggest that web site that will give you the action in live jazz around Montreal www.sortiesjazznights.com If you need more info, ask me.
  22. They mostly were improvisations, so it's pretty tough to talk about new pieces.
  23. So Sketch discs will be reissued on Minium, as well as new projects recorded? Same layout, it seems, same packaging - that's nice, since I enjoyed that with Sketch! The director of the feu label Sketch Philippe Ghilmetti has found new partners and is back on business and from what i saw it's basically the same style, same musicians. http://www.miniummusic.fr/ Carrothers, Viret etc. Too bad they are out of my price range Ah, sorry, I thought you were somehow involved with the label, that's why I asked that question. But does someone know if Sketch discs will be back in print, too, and under what label (Sketch or Minium, or that Japanese label linked to above - or isn't that a label but just a distributor? My Japanese isn't that great... ) I don't know who owns the rights for the recordings of that label (Sketch), but they are still relatively easy to find.
