  1. Andrew, told me shortly after Passing Ships was released that Mosaic was planning to put this stuff out...great news to see that it is confirmed.I have not heard any of this music but he once told me that he was personally satified with "all" of the things he had recorded for BN. As of a few months ago there were no recording plans in the works with Palmetto. Most recently he has been working with the Anglo American Big band in Europe. As for Les Trinitaires it gets better with repeated listening,BTW the great man himself gave me the copy thats in my collection.
  2. I was there last night.Cecil,is still playing with lots of energy, and the band played great. The set consisted of one long piece with lots of variation and color throughout, including some rather melodic moments. All of the solos were great, but special mention must be given to Sabier Mateen, for an incredible tenor solo. The set ended with three flutes which produced a sharp contract to the intense energy preceeding it. Because of the size of the stage two of the trumpet players were partly blocking my view of cecil's hands on the keys, and at certain times the piano was lost among the horns...still it was great.I had a brief chance to meet Cecil after the set, together with the great Tony Oxley who attended the gig.
  3. Does anyone have a copy of this for purchase? Thanks
  4. Rooster, Yes,two(2) Steinway's facing each other.BTW,this was the first in a series of duo performances at Merkin Hall.Next up is Randy Weston and Rodney Kendrick in Feb,and Hank Jones and Benny Green on 3/22. I hope that Andrew and Jason will do this again, but I kind of doubt that it will happen.
  5. Andrew Hill and Jason Moran put on a great show at Merkin Hall last night.Except for one solo number each, this was indeed a duo performance as advertised. It was interesting for me how the individual style and personality of each artist came through, but in a very complimentary way.I did not detect any overt upsmanship or egos showing, although I might add that Andrew in particular was much more active last night,he was all over the keyboard, and playing with more energy than I have seen recently. As for the tunes, the only melodies I recognized outright were"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas",Jason's "Gentle shifts down south" and perhaps a one other.I think most of the pieces were probably originals.
  6. Yes,It was in the print edition and should be online tomorrow.
  7. Andrew Hill, himself told me that he wanted Charles Lloyd to play on POD,simply because he liked the way Lloyd was playing at the time.BTW,I plan to see Andrew later this week and I will try to get more details as to why Lloyd could not make the date. Andrew Hill and Jason Moran will be performing duo on Dec 8,at Merkin concert hall in NYC...
  8. The Crisscraft booklet has some of the worst proofreading in recent memory(the music is very good)
