I'm a part time member. Have the Mosaics and a 'Creative World' edition of the 'Kenton/Wagner' LP. That one is worth signing up for !
I'm a fan...most of the time. Love Artistry in Jazz and both Mosaic sets and especially like Roland's writing on Artistry in Blues. Never much liked the Latin stuff. I also have the Kenton/Wagner LP, but in the original Capitol. I've always been surprised that no one has reissued that one on cd. I guess it's just about the *most* pretentious of his records, and the competition for that award is pretty stiff!

Frank Rosolino. He was in his playing prime in '78.
Plus if he'd have been around longer maybe he could have avoided the tragic ending. Who knows.
I'd second that, though Clifford Brown still seems the most formidable choice.
And I liked the idea of Dupree Bolton. He's pretty amazing on "The Fox."

The company has three full time employees
So now it's just Scott, Fred, and Michael?
So it would seem. You can't say it's not an *efficient* operation! Still, seems kind of fragile, doesn't it? Sigh...don't want to think about it.

Johnny Hodges - Complete Verve Small Group Sessions (1956-61)
Does that set cover any of the material with Wild Bill Davis?
MG
Nope.
I think his first with Davis were for RCA around 1963 (don't have them close by right now to check), then he did a couple more with him for Verve a few years later. I wrote Scott hoping (praying??) that they'd do another Hodges set at least covering the rest of his stuff for Verve in the 60s. The RCA stuff has been issued on cd several times.

How about...
THE COMPLETE BETHLEHEM, JAZZ MAN, ARGO AND UNITED ARTISTS RECORDINGS OF HOWARD MCGHEE
What a great idea!
Seconded. Or thirded.
Fourth'd. McGhee seems to me like the perfect Mosaic artist--outstanding musician but somehow never quite getting the acclaim and recognition he deserved.
I still think Al Haig's 70s things would make a nice set.

Hi!
Glass masters - this should be sourced magnetic tape only?
/Shaft
aha you mean the CD glass masters. Did they not produce the whole 5000 copies or so?
/Shaft
Mosaic never produces all of the listed copies at once. They order them as they need them to control inventories. The loss of the masters came when their inventory was low, so they sold out of these immediately. Gone and gone, I'm afraid.

Has anyone called to preorder this???
I tried and they wouldn't take my money....  Said they needed to wait a few weeks to get a more solid release date.... <_<
Patience, tranemonk, patience. November is close!

That figures, but why did Wynton not play the Star Spangled Banner?
Or sing it, if you've seen Spike Lee's Katrina doc.
Wynton singing the anthem? I think I'll take Rosanne Barr....

Man, I was such a band geek when I was in high school. We worshiped at the shrine of BST. I remember when I first heard it thinking "God Bless the Child" was such a cool song. Had anyone else ever done that......?

not today, Bertrand, I have to work.

Well, I'm not quite sure I'm as down on the series as Chris!!! I agree with him that it concentrated over much on the early period and was way too sketchy on the later one--almost nothing on the avante garde, nothing on Bill Evans, etc. (We've gone over this in the other thread), and the over-reliance on Marsalis and Crouch is *really* irritating. But I think the clips and some of the other talking heads--when they get a chance to talk--make it worth watching. But I absolutely agree with Chris that it represented a great lost opportunity in too many ways. Keep your fast-forward button at the ready when Crouch and Marsalis are babbling away. It'll make the series go much faster.

Anther enjoyable interview, or as Rushing might have said, "Fine, fine!" What is that album he's referring to that he says he recorded for "MG"? I have the Bluesway stuff (which I like--but then I like all of Jimmy's recordings), but I don't recall that one.

A lot depends on how you feel about Teagarden. He's been on my highest pedestal for years, and I was one of many (no doubt) who pestered Mosaic to do a Roulette set. They hesitated for a while until they found a large cache of unreleased live material. I love the set, and if anything, I like some of the studio stuff better than the live stuff. He does a version of Dorsey's theme song, "I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You," that is to die for.

Many of them would be worth acquiring just for their cover artwork!
And the labels. Still think Commodore had the prettiest one.

I just posted the first of two separate interviews that I did with Jimmy Rushing.
I enjoyed this Chris. Rushing has always been one of my very favorite singers. Looking forward to the second one!

Not nearly as much as this:
Restaurant chain Denny's updated its value menu with the Fried Cheese Melt, a sandwich made with "four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese grilled between two slices of sourdough bread." Priced at a reasonable $4, it's served with french fries and a side of marinara sauce. Deep-fried cheese sticks inside a pan-fried grilled cheese sandwich! Is that maybe sort of appetizing? Well it does clock in at 895 calories, so it does have that going for it.This REALLY looks nasty.
