  1. One More Time Find someone to read this out loud and explain it if necessary. I SAID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT DRIVING POP CULTURE. Are we clear? That is a straw man of your own creation. I’ve actually never “driven” pop culture, nor have any of my comments been relevant TO pop culture. And you didn’t answer my question, because if you do then your foolish argument goes up in flames.
  2. Lose previous point, move the goalposts. And hey, since it’s you, why not throw in a straw man for good measure? Classic Jimmery. Who said anything about “driving” pop culture? I didn’t find Madonna’s antics particularly entertaining back in the day. And according to your self-imposed rules for all, that was a relevant opinion since I was well below the age cutoff. So I’d really love to hear your explanation as to why my disdain for the “shock ‘em at any cost” approach was relevant then, but not now. Because age ain’t cutting it. No sir, it is not. This isn’t about twerking, this is about complete image. And honestly, it would be nice if you were self-aware enough to realize that speaking for an entire age group, gender, and race comes across as extreme insecurity. That’s too bad, as some of the best shows in tv history have come out in the last 20 years. Breaking Bad and The Wire immediately come to mind.
  3. What is it with musical age limits today?! How silly. Are we somehow now endorsing the Wynton Marsalis/Ken Burns opinion of when “real Jazz” died?
  4. I have no issues with Pop Culture, that’s just you projecting your own hang ups on the rest of us to make yourself feel better. A needless and irrelevant lesson you feel has to be taught. Unfortunately, none of it is even remotely true. At best it is laughably stereotypical.
  5. Ah, so music has age limits now. Hopefully that’s the dumbest thing I read today. BTW, I listen to modern Pop/Hip Hop daily. It’s the only thing I play in my truck. So I’m very saddened to learn that I can’t have a “relevant opinion” on it because of my age.
  6. Agreed. Shame of it is that she has an absolutely wonderful voice. But the schtick is just too much. Kinda the same with Lady Gaga, though I have completely fallen in love with her in recent years as she has really expanded her art away from the whole Madonna clone thing.
  7. Perfectly stated. This is what I posted on my Facebook page. “Chris and I go back about 18 years. On the old Jazz Corner message board we often engaged in lively and aggressively nasty political conversations. We had absolutely no love for one another. But as time passed, and I became a relatively hardcore liberal, our relationship became damn near friendly. Didn’t talk to him much after JC shut down, but occasionally ran into him here and had a few brief, friendly conversations. I’m not sure either of us considered the other a friend, but news of his death is still sad to me. So long, brother. Rest peacefully.”
  8. I’m actually glad the festival itself got cancelled. Every previous attempt to “re-live” the Woodstock experience has been a disaster. Just admire that cultural moment in time for what it was and move on.
  9. Wonder what ever became of Big Al. He was one of my favorite posters here.
  10. They are smokin’ on that track! Thanks for posting. That’s a real mood lifter!
  11. Oooooooo...I’m going to check that one out later!
  12. I try to make notes on my iPad because I experienced the same problem. I don’t always, but it does help. Never imagined how the lack of a physical product would be so problematic. I wish Apple Music would allow you to save a list of all the albums you’ve listened to.
  13. OH! Yes, the integrated app. I’ll have to check mine, as I have no music loaded on my phone, I only listen to podcasts on it, or the occasional tune from Apple Music. That said, have you tried restoring your phone to see if it loads your library correctly? You’ll have to be without it for maybe an hour or so, but hopefully that would do the trick.
  14. Hmmmm, no. That’s not to say that iTunes doesn’t have an innate tendency to just do whatever the hell it wants at times. But iTunes and Apple Music really have no direct relation to each other. They are two completely separate entities. You’ve obviously had something go very, very wrong, but I don’t think it has anything to do with Apple Music. Have you tried to restore iTunes from a previous save? What kind of artists were you looking for on Apple Music that you couldn’t find? I tend to think their catalog is rather impressive, and I’m mostly listening to European Free Improvisation these days.
  15. Dude!!! This is without a doubt my favorite song sequence on the album. Great call! The part in this video when Rick waves goodbye still slays me.
  16. VERY well stated, RT. Your assessment is spot on, IMO.
  17. Agreed. Though I thought it was stunning on first listen. That’s actually a derogatory description, IMO. They are completed, not doctored. And lovingly so. They didn’t throw out a second rate product to honor Rick Wright. Definitely a top three PF album, IMO.
  18. Yeah, that happens to use whether it's the USPS, Fed Ex, or UPS. And anything that comes from the west, via either Fed Ex or UPS, passes right by us a half hour to our north, to Earth City outside of St. Louis, two and a half hours to our east... That's where both companies main shipping center for the region is.
  19. You’re right. Labels trying to sell their music in the most viable mediums available. Definitely a whole new world!
  20. While I actually love post-Waters Floyd, I wouldn't put the first two in the same category as the middle period. But, The Endless River is right up there, IMO. As for what Guy is getting at, I wonder how much production value is playing into what he's saying.
  21. But Jazz was still a popular genre when Newport was booking those cats. That seems to be the primary difference. Last festival I attended was in Chicago around 2008-9, and the lineup was still pretty varied. They had some of the wilder acts in the smaller stage, Gerald Wilson closed out the next to the last night, and Ornette closed out the festival.
  22. Ugh... BTW, it seems to me that you are talking more about factions than actual worlds. Didn’t many traditionalists hate 60’s Free Jazz? Both existed in the same world, going by your definition, correct?
  23. ??? It’s just my personal opinion, brother.
  24. What do you mean by “severed”? I see a pretty definitive continuum that somewhat reached a stopping point, then turned revisionist. Or, are you speaking of the European Improvisation offshoot?
