  1. I've had other albums where playback has been transformed from distortion to serenity when I upgraded my TT and tonearm. I've always thought that these LPs were poorly mastered in that only the most precise TT set up could play back as intended.
  2. very sorry to hear of your loss. I know how much my dogs mean to me and my family - never easy
  3. I think Ron got a pretty hard time for his CD transfers from the late 80s/ early 90s. In my view I think they stand up pretty well and he deserves more credit. Hope he enjoys his well earned retirement.
  4. perhaps not the best choice of words but overall as a Scot who has no skin in this particular game I've found his comment to the media have been pretty measured. I can quite understand why the German media took exception. The Blitz, 1966, his missed penalty , Brexit and UK duplicity to European neighbours should all be irrelevant. Yet all of this is constantly stirred up over here in a manner that I find distasteful and lacks respect for Englands opponents whether they be Scotland, Germany, Denmark or Italy..
  5. I'm looking forward to the game tonight. I'm hoping that Saka continues to shine and I really admire Southgate and his team who all seem to be level headed. What I can't stand however is the incredibly jingoistic media hype that is a major deterrent for me in getting behind the English team. It just goes on endlessly and the media never seem to learn. A bit more humility would go along way in my book. Football owes England nothing and the country has no right to any outcome. It's not 55 years of hurt but rather underachievement. Additionally I'm very disappointed to read today of Danish fans being verbally abused after the semi final. An absolute disgrace and a stain on the reputation. So I'll need to decide which beer I'm drinking tonight, Watney's Red Barrel or Peroni.....
  6. Yes Royal Mail and any others. I recently ordered used camera equipment from the EU. This (item+postage costs) was subjected to VAT at 20% and a customs handling charge by DHL of £12. It really makes ordering items from the EU prohibitive especially when used items don't attract VAT if sourced here in the UK. In this case it was something I'd not been able to find in the UK so I was prepared for the worst and got that outcome !
  7. What I'm not clear about is whether Discogs orders crossing either way between UK and EU will have custom facilitation charges applied in addition to VAT being levied directly from the sale on the Discogs platform. These custom facilitation charges go to the courier or postal services and can make up a considerable percentage of the overall cost of importing items. The crazy thing is that everyone loses and I can't identify winners other than the exchequer. EU sales to UK will be deterred and vice versa. Brilliant. First world problem of course and very much secondary to climate change and fair vaccine distribution but it makes no sense to me. Perhaps I should get my EU orders shipped to my family in Northern Ireland.....
  8. he's a major talent. lets all hope he stops with football skills and haircut...
  9. I had a P3 about ten years ago. It was an easy TT with a good neutral sound, No doubt it's design will have been tweaked further so it'd be hard to go wrong with one. I currently use a VPI Prime which is whole other level in terms of cost and mass.
  10. Despite the loss there were positives. Plenty of chances created but two errors lead to the two goals. Czech team certainly deserved the win. I feel with a bit more maturity the Scottish team will improve ( but this will most likely happen after the Euros !)
  11. This is an interesting SME session. The music is more informed by jazz than the SME were to become. In terms of approach it's closest Emanem disc would be "Withdrawl". There's Q&A with the audience which I've yet to listen to. Sound is more than acceptable
  12. First game was a bit slow to get started by Italy deserved their win. Turkey were very poor on the whole , with the 2-0 loss flattering them. England look quite promising but they don't have Kieran Tierney so perhaps the Tartan army may be able to celebrate escaping the group stage. Well , at least I can dream.....
  13. The Soul Eyes set is outstanding , no idea why this has seen such limited availability even in Japan. PIm, I've said it before but it bears repeating , thank you for this. It's a really great piece of work you have done.
  14. Sorry hear of the issues with your copy. I ordered an LP edition before I saw the comments above regarding sound quality. It was there with some trepidation that I listened to the LP when it arrived yesterday. I find the sound pretty decent with a good balance. Perhaps there's a difference between the sound of the different formats. Pope's sax sound is a little grating but that's more about him than the recording itself. He sounds a touch like Jackie McLean - ie a bit flat or off pitch. (I'm no musician so don't shoot me, if I'm using the wrong terms here). So I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think it's some rediscovered masterpiece but interesting to hear nonetheless.
  15. I'm only missing 4 alternate takes so naturally I ordered it. Joe Henderson's BN sessions with Kenny D are amongst my favourite sessions . I've all of the titles on CD and LP ( a real mixture of McMasters, Music Matters, NY monos etc) . Pretty much the same situation and thinking lay behind me getting the recent Mobley set and I didn't regret getting it for one minute.
  16. I wonder if they're sticking to CD releases because of licensing and general hassle related to put stuff out on vinyl. I'm comfortable with either LPs or CDs as long as they're done right. I cannot stand overpriced LPs which are anything but audiophile.
  17. I'm impressed by the album. Meditative music for uncertain times.
  18. I'm hoping they next move on to Eric Dolphy and release authorised editions of his June 1964 Parisian radio sessions. The sound on the probably unauthorised West Wind edition is nothing like as good as the recent issues (of other material) on Sam.
  19. This is a lovely album , I've got it on a UK Brunswick LP.
  20. Is anything known about the JiB vinyl ? I ask as my only vinyl from them to date (Group Sounds Four and Five) was less than perfect in terms of pressing. Nothing horrific but just a few more clicks than I generally get from recent vinyl issues. The sonic fidelity of their source tapes vary of course but it'd be good to hear of anyone else's experience with their vinyl editions. The CDs i've bought have been faultless.
  21. I'm certain that Open Sesame CD issue was my introduction to Tina. Jazz was all pretty new to me around then in the late 80's. Although I liked what I heard it's really the passing of the years that has solidified my interest in his music. I simply haven't got bored listening to Tina Brooks in the way that others have out stayed their welcome in my collection..
  22. my copy arrived yesterday , hoping to get the chance to play it today.
  23. Yesterday I received Volume 1 of "...at Utopia", i can see why you rate it so highly...Because of mix up by the seller i was earlier sent The Git Go in error but allowed to keep. So two very nice Waldron discs for the price of one.
