  1. The sound is always so good for transfers in this series; it's a thrill to come across one I don't have already. Very happy with my P3.
  2. The Panassie Sessions (RCA Vintage) Terry Gibbs and Buddy DeFranco, Airmail Special (Contemporary)
  3. I thought about it but did not since all of his sets conflicted with something else I wanted to see.
  4. Heribe Hancock's band at Big Ears: Big Ears Festival Knoxville, TN Band: Herbie Hancock - Piano / Keyboards Terence Blanchard - Trumpet Devin Daniels – Saxophone James Genus - Bass Trevor Lawrence, Jr. - Drums Lionel Loueke - Guitar
  5. Sali Sidibe et Son Orchestre volume 1 No personnel listed but Zani Diabate is definitely on guitar.
  6. I rode in a New York City hotel elevator with him once. He was dressed all in black.
  7. Their CDs are only $10 on band camp, but there is a $5.50 shipping charge.
  8. I heard that band at Smoke last November. A must buy for me.
  9. Pharoah Sanders and John Hicks, Duo Concert in Frankfurt 1986 Volume 1 (Timeless)
  10. Leonard Feather's Encyclopedia of Jazz in the 1960s, volume 2, Blues Bag (Veejay). Features a 1964 date led by Buddy DeFranco (mostly on bass clarinet), with Victor Feldman, and on three tracks, either Lee Morgan or Freddie Hill, plus Curtis Fuller. Brookmeyer and Guitars (Kimberley)
  11. Allen Toussaint, The Bright Mississippi (Nonesuch)
  12. As the saying goes, a Threadgill concert a day keeps the doctor away.
  13. Roland Hanna, Sir Elf (Choice) Johnny Hodges, The Big Sound (Verve)

  16. Chucho Valdes and Paquito D'Rivera, I Missed You Too! (Sunnyside)
  17. Charles Mingus, Mingus Takes Manhattan (New Land). I had a bootleg CD of this material in poor quality sound. I always wondered why Mingus broadcasts in the early 1960s sounded worse than Bird broadcasts from the late 1940s. This release transforms the material with a substantial sonic upgrade, making it highly enjoyable as music and a valuable addition to Mingus's official albums from this era. Glad I bought it, despite the high price.
  18. Some Texas blues tonight, with Larry Lampkin at the Allen Public Library.
