Happy Birthday, Free For All

Thanks guys! I haven't been visiting the board as much lately, but I check in often to see what's up. I've been very busy with my new life in Boulder- a great job at CU and lots of work in Denver and the surrounding area. Lots of great players out here! I really love being around the mountains and I feel that this will be the "last stop" for me. Looking through this thread I see my journey through the last 10 years or so. A little freaky. Hope everyone is well and keep on swingin! FFA -

Horace Silver made it part of the melody of "Quicksilver" (his contrafact on Lover Come Back To Me changes). He also quotes "Hey You Beautiful Doll" on the same tune. -
The "Live at the Vanguard" birthday trifecta is again upon us- Sonny 9/7, Wilbur Ware 9/8 and Elvin Jones 9/9.

Greatest LPs to never make it to CD
Free For All replied to Mark Stryker's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Really? I've heard snippets of all of this stuff over time and none of it has me itching to spend big bucks to get it on CD. Heck, I've even waffled at spending $5 for a used LP of it. Brass and Wood are the strongest of the series IMO, the others hold less interest for me. I like the core quintet with Berg and Harrell. YMMV. -

I was happy to finally find Horace Silver's 70s sides Silver 'N Brass and Silver 'N Wood issued on CD, albeit as a semi-pricey import. The others in the series (Percussion, Voices & Strings) are also either available now or will be soon. -
