  1. Highly. talented pianist! Sad news...
  2. Was a fan minutes after listening to 'Back Country Suite' when it was released back in 1958. Was lucky to attend à surprise visit to the Paris Blue Note club several months later. He had a Rolls Royce car parked outside the club! Kept up and enjoyed most of his recording since.
  3. Cauught The Doors AND Jefferson Airplane at the Roundhouse back in September 1968. What à years it was!
  4. That was Armstrong's 'Cornet Chop Suey' which was the theme song that introduced the weekly radio show Jazz Panorama by Hugues Panassie on national radio in thé earl'y 50's!

  6. Greetings much appreciated here. Lots of jazz listening these days with Lester and Hawkins on pretty constant rotation these days.
  7. I have kept the eight CD Lunceford series from the Masters of Jazz label that went up to the April 19 41 session when the band went back to Decca after the move from Columbia. Excellent series!
  8. The very first one was a French Decca 10 incher of the Louis Armstrong All Stars (with Teagarden, Hines, Cozy Cole et al...) back in 1952 soon after I turned 12. I don't have it any more but still love the music on CD now!

    RVG can now take a well deserved rest. Can't think of any non-musicIan who did so much (and so well! ) for the music!
  11. More sad news. Toots Thielemans died peacefully this morning. He was 94.
  12. Private lp: Jazz at A. N.A. (Army and Navy Academy) 'presented by Class of 58' featuring the Lighthouse All Stars (Frank Rosolino, Bob Cooper, Victor Feldman, Scott LaFaro, Howard Rumsey, Stan Levey), a 1958 concert!
  13. You mean the VGM-DC-53 lp Charlie Parker ? Had this before I sold my vinyls? I see it listed as from February 21-22; 1953....

  15. Kenny Clarke accompaniament on the Aix en Provence recording is pure masterful!

Not on the lîst is this one: JATP 1958-1960, à 3CD set with mostly unissued items by the JATP all stars (Roy, Hawk, Carter, Stitt, Byas), Shelly Manne (with Joe Gordon and Richie Kamuca) , Stan Getz (With Jan Johansson, Daniel Jordan, William Schlopffe), also Diz and Getz and JJ. Great set and good sound recorded in Paris.
