  1. As a jazz musician, jazz fan and appreciative follower of Organissimo, I extend a personal invitation to you to join in additional conversations at a forum I operate, Jazztalk.net. These days, with so many venues absorbing our online time, Jazztalk.net is one more for your consideration. When you have a moment, please take a look at it. Thanks. Ron

  3. Now that's funny! There should be some kind of award for this clip.
  4. Louise Pigeon Walter Pidgeon Walter Booker
  5. I really enjoy Booker Ervin, especially when my drum instructor, Alan Dawson, is seated in the drum chair. The Book series is special!
  6. Here's another taste of Enrico, not something I would characterize as "pretty", by the way. It's his New American Trio, featuring bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez. It was recorded at the Cantina Bentivoglio in Bologna. You can select 720p HD video for best viewing.
  7. Here you go, freelancer. The 1st one is on me.
  8. I like Enrico Pieranunzi a lot! So much, in fact, that I even enjoy his moments of playing "pretty". Playing beautifully & lyrically is not a negative in my playing or listening experience. Among my many favorites are A Night Gone By and Live in Paris.
  9. Thanks, Stefan. I built it from a HK kit in my senior year of high school, which was great fun. I took great pains to route all of the wires neatly and make perfect solder joints. It sounded phenomenal & performed like a champ for almost 40 years, before developing some problems. I'd love to get it up and running again. That power button glowed purple, unlike anything else out there. Always dug that subtle feature. I also built a Rek-O-Kut K34H belt drive turntable (kit), and mounted a Grado Laboratory Series arm & cartridge as part of my original sound system with the HK amp. My speakers were a pair of AES Gigolo bookshelf units (kit), infinite baffles with 8" full range speakers. This was all circa 1961. Kid on a mission with a very modest budget. Sorry for the detour away from the Olive Music System.
  10. Sorry, but I mistakenly attached an image of the Harman Kardon A50K amp, a beefier, more expensive model. The ambience knob controlled the center volume, nothing artificial. Here is what my modest little A30K amp looked like.
  11. Well, my Harman Kardon Award Series A30K (A300 from kit) integrated 30 watt tube amp is a little over 5 decades old, and didn't come with HDMI inputs, either. Now, this is old school, baby. What joy it has brought me, but it needs some tlc.
  12. I've rarely been so bothered by Keith's vocalizations that they smothered what was truly important. I understand how bothersome it can be to some, but it simply hasn't risen to that level with me. After 40+ years of Jarrett listening, in many contexts, I'm still a huge fan.

  15. Thanks, Craig. I can't help but remember George Carlin's line, "Don't be skeered, it's just a beard!".
  16. And, with all due respect, you also removed my post, which had no such "old wars" references, Jim. I'm cool with being a part of this scene or not. If you're really worried about my reputation or style, ask around, please.
  17. I enjoy listening to favorite jazz stations, but also enjoy live streaming from Smalls Jazz Club in NYC, which I listen to just about every evening. I heartily recommend checking it out, and if you dig it, support it with a modest membership. For the cost of a one night cover($20) at the club, you'll have a one year membership, providing you with nightly streams of remarkable musicians. Tonight, I've been listening to this wonderful group: 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM - The Bill Goodwin Group Bill Goodwin - Drums , Adam Niewood - Tenor Sax , Orrin Evans - Piano , Evan Gregor - Bass There's much more to hear, until the wee hours.
  18. I'm very sad to report the passing of a remarkable talent, gentleman and generous soul . . . Jon Lucien. From Jon's website: JON LUCIEN DIED ON THE MORNING OF AUGUST 18, 2007 OF RESPIRATORY FAILURE and OTHER COMPLICATIONS. JON WAS ONE THE MOST REMARKABLE MUSICIANS, SONGWRITERS and SONG INTERPRETERS THAT GRACED OUR LIVES REST IN PEACE JON LUCIEN - JAN 8, 1942 to AUGUST 18, 2007 "I would say my sound is a romantic sound...it's water...it's ocean...it's tranquility." More than any other singer, Jon Lucien captures the essence of romance. His voice is rich and expressive, his best songs are perceptive poetic tales of devotion, trust, hope, harmony and spirituality. Three dimensional parables of love lost and love found and relationships filled with the promise of a new day. He seems to possess an innate ability to evoke an atmosphere and create images not only through his lyrics but the colors of his music. In the 28 years since the release of his debut album, connoisseurs and assorted in-the-know types have spoken his name with the utmost hushed reverence. His seamless melding of jazz, R and B, Caribbean rhythms and Brazilian music proved to be a decisive early influence on what would be simplified and marketed as the twin formats of "quiet storm" and "smooth jazz," although very few artists working in either format approach Lucien's level of artistry or innovation, not to mention originality...
  19. Belated Best Birthday Wishes, Lon! As you know, I don't frequent this board very often, but couldn't resist extending wishes to you, my friend.
