  1. Couldn't resist the sale. Only 15$ each, plus another 15% off. Of course there is P&P to Europe. Never heard those XRCD's, so I ordered 7 of them. I have a normal CD Player, I'm curieus to hear the difference with other versions
  2. I was excited about this until I saw that you have to buy the entire collection, not individual sets. Wish I had that amount of money right now..!
  3. The dollar is taking a pounding :P:P I am wondering how many of this CD were manufactored in the US, it wasn't a limited edition. There must be a store where they sell it for a normal price, only I haven't found it yet... JB Sorry 'bout that. Couldn't resist. MG
  4. Hmmm.. It was only released in 2005.. but a US RvG version of Leo Parker's "Let Me Tell You 'Bout It" is 99$ and up on amazon, while the European version, with copy control, on amazon.co.uk is only 6.54 English Pounds...
  5. Don't think so, on the back of the tray it says both "copy control" and "printed in the USA". And now I remove the black tray, beneath it, copy control is also printed.
  6. Weird... I just ordered and received a CD (The RvG Stanley Turrentine's "That's What It's At", from 2005), especially ordered it from a US Internet store, and it looked kind of weird: It was the first RvG in a normal black jewelcase, instead of the see-through with "Rudy van Gelder" printed on it's spine, but, more important, on the back it says: "printed in the USA", and still had copy control on it! And also strange, the CD in it, (with copy control) had "printed in the EU" on it...) There goes my simple system of buying all Blue Note's in the period of copy control in the US... JB
  7. "Bird at the Highat"... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002V2D/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= An CD-R for $16.00, or an original (second hand) for $0.67 let me guess.. (although anybooks sells a CD-R of The Port Of Harlem Jazzmen" for $41.52, jeez...)
  8. why not make all cd's xrcd's, so the price can be almost as low as normal cd's again?
  9. Which is, unfortunately, probably why it sold out. http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390132179103&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:nl way too expensive... 72 euros...
  10. I saw it on the net somewhere for $37.00 ... Maybe a cheaper US or EU version will be released someday... JB
  11. thanks for the info, Swinging Swede and others... s o the 2006 Conns, which were released on 06/06/2006 should all be without, that is good news... JB
  12. I haven't been on the forum for a while, but I know that for the best information, this is the place to be. I the past, I did read here from which exact batch till which batch the Blue note RvG's did have copy control. I tried to get this info through the search option, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. Hope one of you experts can help me.
  13. think it was his underwear...
  14. My Borders has no old Conns. I have no Borders
  15. those must have been frustrating... for missing those 1 or 2 songs... JB
  16. so what are the reservations about this set? JB sorry, I hadn't read the rest of the threat. but how is this really the best sound quality till now? JB John, everyone has a different idea of what "the best sound quality" is. I will say that these sound very very good. I put them up there with the K2 Digital Impulse cds from Japan as my favorite sounding versions. There are many reasons why these may sound so good. Better source tapes. . . more careful engineering of the remastering process. . . improved mastering equipment. . . .Whatever the reasons, it seems to me that great care was taken to get a great sounding result and it has paid off. thanks jazzbo! what about comparing the sound quality to the expanded versions of "Ballads" and "AFRICA/BRASS" ?? JB John, I prefer the sound of the new single disc version of Africa Brass to the Impulse two cd set, but of course there is far less material. As for the "Ballads" Deluxe version. .. . People who don't like RVG remastering will prefer the new one. I like them both (and of course the two cd set has more material). thanks for the info, jazzbo! JB
  17. should be a job for a music student?
  18. This is probably a US only Music club? cause this is a very nice offer! JB
  19. True, but don't plan on reading any of the notes on the inside - too small - no booklet. are they readable with a magnifying glass? is the fineprint that good? JB
  20. but the box didn't have the complet africa /brass sessions, like mentioned here. then it would be a perfect box! JB
  21. thanks a lot! didn't realize this also was a limited edition series JB
  22. I'm very curious about that Lalo Schiffrin album, "DISSECTION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF MUSIC FROM THE PAST AS PERFORMED BY THE INMATES", but 764 bucks... http://www1.gemm.com/ddc/search.pl?&a_refno=GML954499234
