  1. So now he stole four times as much and nobody knew anything. It's like nobody tended the books at all. So color me unconvinced. ****************** And I know its "early" and "just three games" but the disaster in Fenway has me thinking this is a 90 loss team. The bullpen has been exposed, the offense is a joke and has been the entire season and the defense is worse than last year when that seemed impossible. And as the days warm up, the starting 5, such as it is, will fall in place as an assortment of mediocrities and worse.
  2. Brings up a possible Poll: Which is worse for non-jazz bookings, Newport or New Orleans "Jazz" Fest?
  3. Agree about later Spaulding, I do enjoy a couple of the Muse dates.
  4. Actually @felser and I determined it was probably a reaction to Spaulding on alto.
  5. What look to be interesting radio interviews of some jazz and blues legends https://www.youtube.com/@danmccloskyradiointerviews/videos Mingus, Silver, Duke Pearson, Bobby Hutcherson and others plus BB King, Little Milton and other blues artists.
  6. I could swear there was a separate post about this piece on the blog https://richardvacca.com/joe-gordon-story-part-1/ but I could not find it via a google search for the O. So ... y'all should check this out very informative. I went looking because I just received Shelly Manne & His Men - West Coast Jazz in England and highly recommend it, despite it being on the infamous Solar label.
  7. That almost had me going except for the Sh*t out of Luck acronym, the bank account pw and the snark at the end of the text.
  8. Overall, the Red Sox lead the Majors with a 1.49 ERA, the lowest mark through 10 games in franchise history. Interesting.
  9. If we want to get into private recordings (broadcast) of Silver there is a ton out there in Dime/Trade land.
  10. MSN ... but not yet at the NYT. Sad.
  11. Update to Strider: UCL "damage" And Loasiga torn UCL out for season
  12. Thanks for sharing that Kevin and Lon, it seems as though you could definitely be right ... and I guess that the labels that had artists under contract knew what Granz was doing.
  13. @clifford_thornton @felser I figured it was obvious in context I was referring to Horace as the last contracted artist on BN until the end of the first incarnation of the label, and that therefore a live recording in 1964 would be BN property and that how it came to Pablo was an unresolved mystery, not that he was a Blue Note artist thru his entire recorded output. I am forgetful, not ignorant.
  14. By chance was the catcher set up off the plate? Somehow some umps will definitely miss a pitch right down the middle, as if penalizing him for not hitting the catcher's glove, who was set up outside the strike zone!
  15. I don't want robocalls for balls/strikes -- what I have seen of the "challenge" system in minors seems quite good and it leaves the random variable of super close pitches being called in the moment. It doesn't have to be perfect umps, but a system of appeal by either side so that obvious misses don't stand would be good IMHO.
  16. Shouldn't forget there is also Paris Blues that somehow came out on the Pablo label in the CD era. Never understood how that happened considering that I understood him to be under contract with BN all the way to the very end.
  17. https://www.discogs.com/master/431899-Horace-Silver-Live-At-Newport-58 Yet he put out one on his own Silveto label. https://www.discogs.com/release/2679867-Horace-Silver-Live-1964
  18. Waiting for reality to settle in but in the meantime, enjoying this stat: First seven games and in each the starter has gone at least five innings (Cora's oft-mentioned goal); First 38 innings by starting five: 46 Ks, 3 BBs. And just an observation watching the end of the Red Sox game and the Yankee game - both teams extraordinarily lucky. Jansen getting the save was a minor miracle and if he stays in the low 90s something must be wrong with him; Yankees on the cusp of being walked off (possibly) and sneak out with a pitch that was 4 inches off the plate being called a strike. It was like it was the late 90s, or an Angel Hernandez game. Terrible.
  19. Sad news but a long life well-lived, and it goes without saying, well-played. RIP.
  20. So my guess of three months or more since the change was accurate. I am actually really surprised that Gheorge never had this come up before.
  21. this was a change on last upgrade, that you had to use your email not your screen name going forward. Its been quite a while since this changed, actually. I am guessing three months or more. I imagine you didn't notice this because you had the log in cookie recognizing you whenever you did come here.
  22. It was my pleasure and really not very time consuming at all .... in fact it suggests an option for the future if there is an unclaimed month, for a quick and dirty collaborative effort again.
  23. I think maybe you're right. I like Spaulding later in his career, some Muse recordings are strong.
  24. I took 1/2 a star off for Hank Mobley soloing? WTH is the matter with me? <Hangs head in deep shame>
