  1. @Joe Sangrey ID'd the tenor soloist. I hesitate to give hints out otherwise.
  2. I pre-ordered this; can't say it leaped out of the speakers though. Need to listen a couple more times and would be curious your thoughts.
  3. @Niko Several on your list to hope for!
  4. Not certain on this particular one but intrigued by the potential series. There was a Dex at the Paradiso LP (I think two actually) many years ago. Will that be a reissue or anything new? Is there any chance Mobley gigged there? Too much to ask probably.
  5. Has it really? I am only getting Jimmy Hamilton and Clark Terry from a thread-review. Certainly curious for what brings it all together to an actual answer.
  6. But then wouldn't it be succincter to say "rip off George Coleman"?
  7. Offered up to find out what other musicians say to this
  8. I want to lift a quote from this and make a t-shirt, giving of course the character's name as source. See who understands the reference.
  9. Anyone excited about "Spring Breakout" in which organizations field teams of top prospects in official spring games? I am somewhat curious to see some of the young prospects the Sox have coming up (no pitchers, of course) against the Braves future stars on Saturday.
  10. Major congratulations are in order Mark. (And did I ever mention how great it is that my name in your acknowledgements in the book just happened to land at the top of the next page? )
  11. I think if she's interested, his widow should be directed to this thread, perhaps in a few days, to see how many post here. I didn't interact with Bill too much and not at all off--board but he was so active and also a supremely nice presence.
  12. Two observations: I thought you were going to say he administered the blindfold test, with the understanding you wouldn't get any breakfast if you missed, and, Bill was a consistent commenter on BFTs but almost exclusively for naming tunes, IIRC, and never for compiling himself. So kinda funny he did his own on you, David.
  13. Very sad news, but Bill had a full life filled with live performances by many of the legends of jazz. May he rest in peace. (Updated the Thread title)
  14. I thought I had been hacked last week when in fact I was only 'spoofed' - one friend accepted a friend request from the faker until I told her what had happened. Mostly I posted on my timeline about ignoring friend requests or DMs from the faker and got a bunch of people offering "recovery" services. Banned and Reported. I do have two-stage authentication and it was working weird last week but ultimately no issues resetting a password. Wondering if Tom had two-stage set up or not? I am not sure how FB works, but if you think of it, getting in on a hacked password and then changing the email would be first step to successfully changing the password, if email confirmation and code goes there. Tom did the emails come in that order? Changed email, then changed password?
  15. I believe I have gotten Storyville dates thru Amazon at a price point of about $15 with Prime shipping. There is too much to recommend but I would start with the Buddy Tate live recording that was the source for "Now's The Time" on my January BFT. Edit to say: In 2023 price points a little closer to $17 and in addition to the above, I purchased Dexter Gordon, Copenhagen Coda Mulgrew Miller, Solo in Barcelona both of which I would also recommend.
  16. Sorry Yankee fans but when you're ticketed for last place after finishing there two times in a row already, hearing that Gerrit Cole is himself ticketed for an MRI is music to my ears.
  17. When was last word about him? I only recall the handful of 70s releases then what I presumed was a return to obscurity. I am wondering if there would be a lot of reporting if he had passed.
  18. I had not the slightest clue Steve Turre was still in that group as you couldn't pay me to watch that program for going on, I don't know, 15 to 20 years? I hope he is well-compensated and suspect that he is.
  19. Felser started a thread about two of potential interest here but I was more intrigued by the description of the "new" jazz series those two carried in the CD Japan listings: New jazz series [GREATEST JAZZ OF ALL TIME] focusing on traditional and mainstream jazz, especially hard-pap and piano jazz, has begun! We will discover and release live recordings of masterpieces and legends from over 100 years of jazz history! So, not being sure the best way to find others I simply went by the March 20 release date and found the following: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47908 Heart To Heart Duo Concert In Frankfurt 1986 Vol.2 [Limited Release] Pharoah Sanders - John Hicks https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47911 Evergreen [Limited Release] Kenny Drew / NHOP / Alvin Queen https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47914 Solo piano Jazz at The Pinehill [Limited Release] Rein De Graaff If anyone can find others, or suggest a better search method, please post here. A pretty tight focus to date on 80s - 90s which at least gives me hope of maybe a Ray Brown Trio w Gene Harris to pop up some day.
  20. Count me as more excited over possibilities contained in New jazz series [GREATEST JAZZ OF ALL TIME] focusing on traditional and mainstream jazz, especially hard-pap and piano jazz, has begun! We will discover and release live recordings of masterpieces and legends from over 100 years of jazz history!
  21. That's OK - I could always put in the hearing aids that have ear molds and take out the batteries.
  22. You obviously have far wider ears than either of us. You and I have a fairly large sweet spot we share, Felser and I a slightly smaller one. You and he would have more to enjoy together, no doubt, since so much of what you deeply enjoy is, I think, the focus of John's listening, most of the time I wouldn't decline an invite though.
  23. I usually use my Goldwave audio editing software to extract Wav or FLAC files from CDRs (and sometimes Redbook CDs) for sharing with others. What Goldwave doesn't read, I have some free audio ripper program that has to my recollection never failed to extract to whatever format I want/need. So I would not assume you have corrupted files and would at least consider trying some other "ripping" software first before you chalk it up to a handful of files that have degraded.
  24. I remember them fondly from the Sinatra Group but it wasn't actually Steve or Edie.
