  1. Felser started a thread about two of potential interest here but I was more intrigued by the description of the "new" jazz series those two carried in the CD Japan listings: New jazz series [GREATEST JAZZ OF ALL TIME] focusing on traditional and mainstream jazz, especially hard-pap and piano jazz, has begun! We will discover and release live recordings of masterpieces and legends from over 100 years of jazz history! So, not being sure the best way to find others I simply went by the March 20 release date and found the following: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47908 Heart To Heart Duo Concert In Frankfurt 1986 Vol.2 [Limited Release] Pharoah Sanders - John Hicks https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47911 Evergreen [Limited Release] Kenny Drew / NHOP / Alvin Queen https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-47914 Solo piano Jazz at The Pinehill [Limited Release] Rein De Graaff If anyone can find others, or suggest a better search method, please post here. A pretty tight focus to date on 80s - 90s which at least gives me hope of maybe a Ray Brown Trio w Gene Harris to pop up some day.
  2. Count me as more excited over possibilities contained in New jazz series [GREATEST JAZZ OF ALL TIME] focusing on traditional and mainstream jazz, especially hard-pap and piano jazz, has begun! We will discover and release live recordings of masterpieces and legends from over 100 years of jazz history!
  3. That's OK - I could always put in the hearing aids that have ear molds and take out the batteries.
  4. You obviously have far wider ears than either of us. You and I have a fairly large sweet spot we share, Felser and I a slightly smaller one. You and he would have more to enjoy together, no doubt, since so much of what you deeply enjoy is, I think, the focus of John's listening, most of the time I wouldn't decline an invite though.
  5. I usually use my Goldwave audio editing software to extract Wav or FLAC files from CDRs (and sometimes Redbook CDs) for sharing with others. What Goldwave doesn't read, I have some free audio ripper program that has to my recollection never failed to extract to whatever format I want/need. So I would not assume you have corrupted files and would at least consider trying some other "ripping" software first before you chalk it up to a handful of files that have degraded.
  6. I remember them fondly from the Sinatra Group but it wasn't actually Steve or Edie.
  7. @Peter Friedman My jealousy knows no bounds.
  8. I think vinyl is Ltd edition not to be repressed. CDs aren't. So better value and won't get overpriced for a long time. Win/Win (green smilie here)
  9. I have never had a problem buying RSD CDs after the "big day".
  10. An added benefit to your return Tony - I am not sure if I was aware of this one or not but I have been on a big Buddy Tate kick and hopped into Amazon to order this one. I think if I was aware of it in the past George Wein might have scared me off ... but I've heard him a bit on some videos I've acquired and he was good enough. And Tate has really become a focal point of purchases lately so reasonable price, I'm on it. So even though your guess was wrong, it was appreciated.
  11. Glad you came back for our celebration of your creation. Would be great if you had time to hang out more, I had forgotten how thorough a commenter you were on BFT tracks back in the day.
  12. 1987 Bern Festival, Clark Terry enjoying his friends JJ Johnson, Nat Adderley, Harold Land performing.
  13. I had to go back and refresh my memory. That was an easy post/reaction. Justin was absolutely trollish in the comment that sparked so much unpleasantness. So let's stir some new shit related to OP: I love Gene Harris. I am agnostic about OP (like several, more agreeable to the sideman/"support" dates). You (meaning everybody with an opinion on OP)? And why, since they both claim inspiration from boogie woogie pianists and both have blues sensibility that is mostly front and center. And while Gene never reached OP levels of fame, he had a deep connection to audiences and in the latter half of his career toured the world many times, with Ray Brown, leading his own quartet, and fronting the Phillip Morris Big Band.
  14. I actually thought specifically about Booker Ervin after my last post about Harper. For me, It's Ervin mixed with Coltrane/Sanders to great detriment. Sorry my 2c.
  15. I think that's everyone except @Rooster_Ties?
  16. I accept that others have different opinions but I find the tone harsh and in fact, my original notes, written last month, said "U-G-L-Y". I just didn't write it that way I thought 0 stars got the point across. Your dating is incorrect.
  17. @DrJ Is this an Eddie Jefferson lyric? Cliff Jordan on soprano? Honestly I am not even sure he recorded with soprano but that's what my notes say so ... 3 stars, @JSngry Hawk? Byas? Great whoever it is. 10 stars. @felser Well an interesting Felser in that I didn't start hating it until that god-awful sax solo. No stars and NEXT! @Joe Back to @JSngry quality for me. I swear it sounds like the start of a Jackie Mac or Tina Brooks composition, but it resolves differently. No guesses but like this a lot. 9 stars. @Ken Dryden Duke tune, different instrumentation for sure. Very curious on the saxophone. 3.5 stars. @medjuck I told Joe that I thought it might be Sanborn. Certainly more up my alley than his but while I have the CD that's been ID'd, it's not the greatest disc, with the Blakey vocal being painful. @mikeweil Spanish vocalist on Night in Tunisia - liked the vocalist OK until the scatting, liked the band more overall. This one came with metadata but it wouldn't have helped me anyway. 3 stars. @mjzee Another good 'un, with metadata but I wouldn't have ID'd anyway. 3.5 stars. @tkeith Just never gonna be my thing. -1 star (to differentiate from Felser's contribution. Thanks to all, there are some real gems here I will look forward to their reveal (Jsngry, Joe, Mjzee, with DrJ and Ken Dryden fitting in there too. I figured you would spot Christlieb (who is best known soloist or bandmember) and thought I recalled that you didn't care for him that much. Glad you liked it overall though. I'll refrain from saying anything that might get it ID'd until later in the month.
  18. Blakey croaks out "For All We Know" too - not exactly a highlight. I'll post my guesses later but on this one I guessed Sanborn. Hurts to realize that it proves the old presumption that there will be a BFT track that I have but don't recognize.
  19. UK thing? Very odd. Good March is a long month!
  20. Ugh. Well WeTransfer with its preview system is pretty cool for listening in the moment. Your site was and will be again a the Great BFT Archive.
  21. Time for Part 2 of the 20th (more or less) Anniversary BFT featuring original BFT creator @DrJ! The link Thom provided me only showed 239 tracks when I checked it just now. But in the meantime here is a WeTransfer link: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/621d499983deba86ee1edc6e648c590d20240229014910/42b367/grid The link displays the files in "preview" mode so its functionally equivalent to Thom's player - you can listen to each track in its entirety if you choose or you can download and play locally. Here is Thom's link which he says should work (you may need to clear cache): https://thomkeith.net/blindfold-tests/current-tests/ Please comment on tracks using compiler's screen names, e.g. @Dan Gould will alert me that someone has commented on my contribution (and sorry in advance @felser its another not WWFL.
  22. When I saw its $14.98 with free Prime delivery I pre-ordered. I wasn't sure if Smoke Sessions recordings had a reasonable list price or not ...
  23. Thanks to the contributors for part 1 of the 20th Anniversary BFT Celebration and the participants. Dan Gould Track: https://www.discogs.com/master/1784843-The-Leslie-Drayton-Orchestra-Our-Music-Is-Your-Music Leslie Drayton has an interesting history considering he was a founding member of Earth Wind & Fire and music director for Marvin Gaye, too. I admit I purchased this LP purely because of the alto soloist on my chosen track, Curtis Peagler. It was track A3, "A Greasy Brown Paper Bag". @JSngry ID'd it as something played when he was much younger and came close to the title, yet the album says that Leslie Drayton wrote and arranged all tracks, so go figure. Some other heavy hitters in the band and there are several other LPs recorded by the group. I of course invite all other contributors to post here their reveals of their track details.
