  1. Used to really like his stuff with Roy Ayers, especially Ramblin'. Got to pull that one out. Been too long.
  2. My copy of the Akiyoshi Tabakin Band Mosaic Select is in mint condition. It's even still in shrink wrap. I'm looking for a copy of the Pendulum Mosaic Select in excellent condition and will do a trade. Any takers? Thanks in advance.
  3. Chuck nessa and Michael Cuscuna
  4. Really sorry to hear this. I interview him for my college paper years ago. Was a really nice guy in addition to being a fine guitar player. Way too young.
  5. One of the first records I ever bought, and it's a great one. Love your taste in music, by the way.
  6. Was once in a record store in New Jersey -- Rare Records (unfortunately not there any more) -- and a woman came in to have the owner Rod put a Donald Byrd LP she had on disc. Rod would do that for people. After she dropped off the record, Donald Byrd himself came in to the store. He lived not too far away and came by once every blue moon. He signed the CD for the lady. When she came back, she had a cool surprise.
  7. Seems like a lot of obscure vocalists on this. Gives me pause. Sure, Bessie Smith was great. Nevertheless....
  8. I managed to find a reasonably priced coy of Illumination (the one Larry recommended), and he wasn't kidding. Killer stuff.
  9. Like his new one with Bill Charlap. Wonderful version of "Lift Yourself Up."
  10. Go Sixers!! Let's get 30 wins!! (Don't laugh. It's a lofty goal for us.)
  11. Yes! A belated happy birthday. Love your posts. Keep em comin.

I once read an absolutely glowing review on the DG site of a Horace Silver play-along record. (They weren't reviewing it as a play-along record, but as a record for regular listening.) Still, I love those guys. You just have to ignore much of their commentary.
  13. Unbelievable! You can hear the whole history of jazz here.
  14. He brought we Sixers fan a championship. Fo, fo, fo... We'll never forget. So long big guy.
