  1. I'd say it's the opposite. The sets with JMcL are very good but the earlier sets without him have a different feel, and are better.
  2. I do not see any ads. I am using Chrome with AdBlock.
  3. this sale is ending soon; anybody wanna recommend some titles? For Christmas I got the Soviet jazz set vol 1, a Braxton (no need to recommend any more of those, I think I have just about all of them) and some Fonda/Stevens group discs. What else should I check out from this sale?
  4. Chrome user since introduction. Still amazes me how much faster it is compared to IE. I use Safari on my iMac, which is decent but no Chrome.
  5. Wow. I hope you get better JJ. I still enjoy the 3 recent AEC discs with Joseph (on Pi).
  6. Same for me with the Miles/Gil box. Also, the Plugged Nickel box, mainly because for a few years (when I still had time for such extended listenings) I listened to each set on the corresponding late Dec day.
  7. Amazon Prime has been free for one-month trials for a long time. Nothing special about it right now. It is useful that it offers the streaming movies/tv, but the selection as bad as Netflix. Not much there....
  8. What experience? As I stated previously, my girlfriend is a pharmacist, and I have friends who work the wholesale side. Well, that's a pretty broad statement to make when one's "experience" is barely touching the industry, which is made up of big business and top-level science. As a scientist working on the R&D side, the corruption is firmly on the business end. Please, make a distinction next time.
  9. Even with it being free, I still couldn't listen to Brian Wilson. Bah Humbug.
  10. Any chance you would write a bio, Chris?
  11. Winnipeg, 60. Funny that Winnipeg, a city on the prairies, is representing the EAST.
  12. Use Google Voice. You can record the conversation and have it online as it happens. Not sure how you do anything with the file after that, though.

    Anthony Braxton

Some amazing deals for Braxton's GTM at Google Music: https://market.android.com/search?q=anthony+braxton&c=music&docType=2&so=1 I paid ~$110 for the 9 Compositions (Iridium) box set on disc when it was released, but the download is $5.99! They aren't lossless downloads, and you don't get the liners (or the DVD in this case), but still, not a bad deal.
  14. the 9-disc Braxton solo piano looks interesting at this price. He doesn't actually play, if I'm not mistaken.
  15. I would love to take advantage of this sale; any opinions on the Fonda/Stevens discs? Or the 4-disc Soviet sets?
  16. I buy CDs, put them on my computer so they can be transferred to Google Music Beta, and then stream them to my phone (listening through either Sony Bluetooth headphones or a Logitech Bluetooth speaker). However, whenever possible I much prefer to be parked in my chair, listening to CDs played on my stereo.
  17. I wonder if that has anything to do with visitors to that site coming mostly from a rock background? Just a guess....
  18. Right, but what I'm saying (and what everyone seems to miss when I say it) is that I really hope future releases aren't limited to strictly those concerts that were filmed. If it's a good show but there isn't video, so what, release it anyway.
  19. The video is interesting, but I doubt that I will watch the DVDs more than once or twice. I really hope that they are not limiting themselves to just concerts with associated video. Sure, include a DVD when appropriate, but don't pass over other shows/eras just because they were not filmed.
  20. Thanks everyone! I haven't been here too often recently (both kids in school now, and a dog that is more needy than any child) but it's good to know where to go for intelligent, thoughtful discussion of good music. I forgot that I put actual birth date in my profile, not just the month/day! Yep, 40...
  21. I get off the bus at 1975. I've yet to hear anything after then that would interest me.
