  1. "Intensity" another must have Earland. Lee Morgan's last session.
  2. Saw that later tour too - Boris the Spider was a highlight umm that was 1989 not 87 and I also saw their rendition of Tattoo. I saw the 96 Quadrophoenia tour and that was a lot of fun even if the Ox was generally buried in the mix. A Naked Eye encore was truly special. I saw the 2000 tour which was also generally good with some excellent quad material. I have mixed feelings about Rabbit on keys as I think he overplays a lot. Zak Starkey is the real deal and their best drummer after Keith. When the Ox died that was it for me as Pino was an uninspired replacement choice. I'm collecting as much of the Moon years as possible these days.
  3. agree. I enjoy this collection quite a lot. Easy to find-ebay, half, etc.
  4. saw Bruce Hornsby last night and he was smoking. One of the many highlights was his "Grateful Dead" version of Valley Road-he referenced the Wembley arena show in 1990 with his first Dead tour. I saw his first show with the boys at MSG a few weeks prior and many more. He always pushed the band in the right direction.
  5. gotta add a shout out-Happy Birthday to one of my favorite artists!
  6. I've thought of buying an external HD (USB) but I love to burn those shows on CDRS and place them in my storage shelf. On the other hand those copies take lot's of space and I have only a very small listening environment.Maybe I'll buy the external HD when I run out of space in this room. check out buy.com for externals-they have good deals all the time. I just bought an IOmega 250 gig external for about $100 total.
  7. I have the Proper Fats. IMO, one of their better foursomes.
  8. I know only about dimeadozen.org (home to a lot of Jazz such as Trane, the AEC, etc.), but not "zomb." Perhaps those in the know might list a few download sites. These sites tend to host only "legal" downloads, so there is no "moral" hangover involved. [/quote zombie torrents and trader's den are two i look at. There are a lot out there-google bit torrent sites
  9. there have been almost all of the fabled May 77 soundboards (all good SQ and some absolutely pristine) for down load on dime and zomb torrent sites-also other sites as well. I just got a nice copy of the great 5-9-77 show with one of my all time favorite 1st sets. Out there for free! For now
  10. Gotta agree; however I found a $20 cd storage unit on ebay that while not fancy at all, does the trick. It's unfinished so you can stain it. Storage just ain't worth big bucks since one day sooner than you might think, you'll have everything on a drive anyway.
  11. I've never bought the actual cd but have all tracks (i think) scattered across several other cds. It is a gem. Probably due for a remastering (if it hasn't already occurred). any unreleased stuff if there is any from the sessions would be nice as well. Elis, yet another drug casualty
  12. PM sent yesterday re the "Dynamic Duo"
  13. 8-6-71 is one of the great live recordings of the Dead easily available (on archive). Downloading and converting to wav files is quite easy and there are tutorials available. you need to grab a few free tools. check etree.org for instructions. there are lots of free dead sbs for download at various internet sites.
  14. Hodges set arrived yesterday and I immediately put on Disc 1 with a large scotch to close a longgggg week. My mood improved rapidly as I listened to Johnny's peerless sound. Thanks also for the careful packing. Set looks new per Take5's description. Thanks again!!
  15. Imations were the first cdrs I bought and half of them failed. I've used TY unbranded for years with virtually no problems. I wait for a sale and buy 500. With all the shows I'm downloading, I'll be buying another round before too long..heck..I've almost filled a 250gig (233 actual) external drive
  16. Thanks for the article. My only Pass show was with Oscar Peterson-fabulous is an understatement
  17. I think Bolton's business manager looked a the multiplatinum sales of the Rod standards cds and said go forth and replicate.
  18. thanks. Will still raise a glass
  19. just heard the news. Very sad. I was fortunate enough to catch him in fine form a couple of years ago at Twins on U street in DC. I purchased one of his cds (tribute to Fats Waller-truly excellent) and had him sign it. A very nice man but even then he looked worn. By chance, we'll be on U street tonight and will raise a glass. RIP John Hicks.
  20. IMO, In my time siginificantly better than New York, new sound. Fellow board mates, I don't think we should encourage burning and distributing mosaic discs (especially those still available)-they need all the sales they can get-just my$.02
  21. Hefti was THE Basie arranger. Saw a wonderfrul Hefti tribute by the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra on U street a few years ago. Joe Wilder was blowin'...
  22. I just picked up what I thought was the 2004 reissue of this classic but it turns out it's the 1989 version. Tracks are the same so is there a big difference in SQ-89 vs 04?
