The cd of FAL has no foto credits either. Mosaic (Michael Cuscuna) got all the Francis Wolff foto's from ALfred Lion in the beginning of the 80's just after Mosaic had started.
I guess the greatest f*ck up cover didn't reach the US since it was an EU thing only. On the cover of Oblique Herbie's last name was spelled: Handcock. Tom @ BN saw it just in time for the US version to be printed.
By the way the 2 Japanese TOCJ versions mentioned don't have the alternate take so it's easier not to screw this up!!!
In fact this set had large preorders (just like the Lester set). Around 900 which is really good even for Mosaic. I was there last week and if there's a time to support them it's gotta be now. The state in which the industry is now really sets off all the alarm bells. I don't think we can think in the way we did about reissues by Mosaic. So Hans the money this set is raising will be used to pay the bills not to fund new sets I'm afraid.
Didn't know you were into fusion? I'm very much lately (that's why I'm off board lately I guess). Might be linked to the fact I'm in love again.....who knows!
Aggie87: good joke about Kurt!!!
MC uses him mainly for smoothing out early digital recordings. Not so impressed by his recording of a Live Joe Lovano at the Village Vanguard.
Cheshire Cat by Ronnie Foster (TOCJ-6292). I'd order it when it was released together with the rest of the same series but it never came. Later I tried to get it through eBay but it was never offered. Finally some years ago I found a copy. This must have been pressed only a few hundred times.
"On the bright side , at least Jazz isn't suffering as much as Classical. The cuts there are in the thousands."
Yes, but the number of issues is also more than 10 times as large so the percentage might be in favour of classical music after all.
