  1. Excellent MG! Let me know if you enjoy this one? It's one of my favorite recent purchases.
  2. I was reading an article in a recent time Time magazine asking the worlds renowned chefs, if they were to die tomorrow what there last meal would consist of. Surprising there answers were quite simple and basic. Comfort foods, junk foods(hot dogs, burgers) and simple meals they enjoyed when growing up. For me, since I'm pretty health conscious for the most part, I probably would opt for a trip to McDonalds for 2 Big Macs with cheese, a large order of fries and a chocolate milk shake. Hey, what the heck I'm going to die tomorrow anyways! So if given the option to eat whatever you wished, what would you choose as your last meal?

    Gigi Gryce

I found it very interesting when Gryce retired from jazz in the early 60's to become a music teacher, he completely cut his ties with the jazz world. So much so, his 2'nd wife didn't even know he was at one time a jazz musician.

    Gigi Gryce

I've been listening to the excellent archived programs by "Ghost Of Miles" of Gigi Gryce. I did a search to see if there has been any substantial discussion of Gigi in the past. While there are a number of threads, very little serious discussion. Underappreciated artist? I was curious because only recently I've become interested in his recordings. After listening to David's program, my interest is peaked. How about it guys? I'm very interested in reading your thoughts. Thanks.
  5. Let me also add, I was able to snatch the difficult to find Gryce recording from Newbury Comics for $16.18 including shipping. A bargain these days.
  6. I used to be a big L.A. Ram fan for years. IMO, she ran that team into the ground before making the move to St. Louis then blaming lack of fan support in Anaheim. When she decided to move the team, that was it for me. I'm a San Diego Charger fan now. No regrets.
  7. Don't ruin it for the rest of us! Why? You think they'll notice 278 orders going to the same address? Won't the postman hate you? Good thing I don't deliver mail on his route.
  8. Kind of strange. I received 2 emails from J & R stating my order was being shipped by both UPS and the Postal Service. Well, my entire order courtesy the USPS arrived today to my delight. Hopefully I wont be receiving a duplicate shipment from UPS also?

    Nat Adderley

Thanks MG for pulling up this thread. You'd think I would know better for making such a statement. Interesting to read that many folks here speak highly of Nat's "Work Song". For some reason in the past, it didn't make a big impression on me. It may now be a time to revisit that recording and see if my feelings change? I guess I've been guilty of comparing him to other favs such as Blue, Morgan and Hubbard. Realistically those aren't fair comparisons. There styles are different. To be honest Kenny Dorham never made a big impression on me until recently when I finally "got him". Now I really enjoy just about everything Kenny put out. It's great to see all these recommendations. I'll have to make note of some of these. As for making any further purchases through Concord, I've spent enough money on there recent sale. I've really got to chill for awhile.
  10. You and I both. How 'bout some group therapy? Let me know the place and time and I'll be there!
  11. Al, count me as one who'd be interested in your comments concerning the Lighthouse recording. The only difference I see with this recording is the exclusion of Wynton Kelly. Too bad. Again, the real surprise for me on this session is Nat. If this guy played a better session, I'm not aware of it. Great work throughout.
  12. I had the opportunity today catching up on my latest Concord purchases to listen to Cannonball's 1961 release, "Plus". What a great album! While I own at least a half dozen of his solo releases, this album may have jumped to the top of the heap. Cannonball and his fellow band mates are all in excellent form. In particularly brother Nat, who IMO, never sounded better. A few times I had myself saying YEAH!!! That's a big deal for me since I've never been a big admirer of his playing. You also have Wynton Kelly and Victor Feldman on this session. Louis Hayes really does some excellent drum work throughout. I've already played this album twice and can see myself playing this a few more times in the coming days. A real toe tapper/head shaker/finger snappper if you will? I really enjoy this album! Anyone else also own this release and willing to offer some thoughts? If you don't already own this album and enjoy Cannonball's playing, I trust you'll be quite satisfied with this release.
  13. I think I need to find a new hobby? Ordered these discs: Harold Land - Eastward Ho! Clifford Brown/Max Roach - Study In Brown Sonny Criss - I'll Catch The Sun! Dexter Gordon - The Panther!
  14. Interesting posts here. I'll give it some thought for the time being whether to make a purchase or not. I've been buying alot of music as of late and it wouldn't kill me to hold off for now. I'm still playing catch up with my latest batch of cds from the Concord Records sale. The rational side of my brain talking here.
  15. Can some of you good folks offer up a thought or two on this release? Right now, I can scoop this up for a pretty dirt cheap price. Keeping in mind I already own all of Booker's "Book" sessions and a few others as well.
  16. If all the Blue Note releases disappear, there'll be no reason for me to continue with my membership. Hopefully that wont be the case.
  17. In the next few days I should be receiving the Walter Davis, Jr. release "Davis Cup". Next month on my queue is Art Taylor's "A.T.'s Delight". At least for now.
  18. Me too. Woohoo! Me three! I should have them in my hands as soon as Friday.
  19. The name of that album is "Another Story". Hopefully I'll get around to listening to that recording tomorrow. Meanwhile, it's onto disc 4. This disc features material from the albums "In Memory Of" and "Mr. Natural".
  20. Jeff, my apologies for not expressing my concerns in my initial post. It clearly wasn't intentional. I hope that your health improves over the course of time. Nothing but the best of wishes extended to you. I hope you make out well selling your collection. I'd also like encourage you to stay on with us. This is a great outlet for jazz lovers. I'm sure there is alot you can add to these discussions.
  21. I'm interested in the Kenton Presents set. If it's anything like the Rumsey Lighthouse All-Stars sessions, I'm sure I wont be disappointed. I also read the thread here praising this set. Stan Kenton Presents
