  1. One of the best curated stores I have ever visited, wish it was in my neighborhood! And beautiful inside as well...
  2. CD Japan delivered these this morning....ordered 17 of them; listening through headphones right now to the first one - "Not Now I'll Tell You Later" Three are mono, "Basie" (Atomic), "Live At Carnegie Hall", "Eddie Davis Trio" I have an early Atomic CD in Stereo on French Vogue/Roulette from before EMi acquired the Roulette catalog, (now owned by WEA....) Which is why we are getting all these Roulette re-issues....WEA Japan is doing a great job getting these titles out.
  3. I sure miss those dime store/drug store cutout bins and all those 87 cent Lp's.... lots of monos with stickers "This record will play on a STEREO phonograph" Now here we are living in the days of vinyl mono mania....
  4. Updated List to Lon's additions, thanks Lon! I shoulda bought these 15 years ago when they came out..the sound on them is very good on my system, picked up 8 of them so far....out of the 13. Wonder if there are any more? All deleted of course, it's 2015 already.....

  6. Usually the price is a dead giveaway mini's are usually at least 2000 yen and up.
  7. I bought this and received the 7" package which was a surprise. It's very nicely done, great photos. The CDs are almost impossible to get out of the cardboard slots. One time only for me and I put them in sleeves and stored them inside securely. I'd scratch them taking them in and out of the packaging. There's a marvelous posed photo of Billie with Ray Ellis in the background.
  8. Looks like it was a compilation of previous tracks from other Lp's issued after Basie returned to Verve.
  9. Ordered a bunch of these for September delivery. With shipping and discounts came out to $12.74 ea
  10. I assume by the price these are jewel cases, mini LP covers usually run about 18-22 yen.
  11. Does anyone have or know of a complete list of these Atlantic Jazz Gallery issues? I'd like to put together a collection of them, but information is difficult to locate. Thanks!
  12. http://www.amazon.com/West-Coast-Jazz-Various-Artists/dp/B00J3FKAEO/ref=sr_1_6?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1403801725&sr=1-6&keywords=west+coast+jazz £11.88 from Amazon UK, Jeff
  13. Ordered at Amazon.de US $138.60 including shipping. We'll see if it ever really comes out....lots of announcements over the past 2 years with no results. We'll see.
  14. The "warmest" sound I get is from my MARANTZ SR 18ex multi-channel and related MARANTZ playback equipment, almost rivals my FISHER 800c tube receiver. This is true of all the various digital formats but it especially warms up CDs. The speakers are Klipsch Heresy's
  15. Hi Lon! I ordered a number of these last week sucker that I am. They should roll in any day now. The Nina Simone one is one of my favorites - bought it on Phillips vinyl in the late 60's.
  16. I just ordered this on Amazon UK for $40.94 including shipping release date 11/18/13 Amazon US site price is $66.56 release date 12/10/13 UK shipments usually arrive in about 7 days
  17. I have the entire series and yes I kept the outer sleeves. It was a dumb idea as the artwork was hidden underneath. Polygram still had Verve, this was pre-Universal and they did a lot of far out packaging then. They did a Mercury series of R&B that was housed in a plastic radio replica. Bought them all as they came out in the beginning. Even then they were very hard to find and did not flow through normal distribution channels. I can't remember how I got them but they were not easy to track down.
  18. Dusty Groove had the first eleven of this series at 16.99, all but two titles sold out in one day.
  19. There is a wonderful Atlantic album by Esther Phillips called Confessin' The Blues with live tracks one one side and studio tracks on the other - the studio tracks are all with Onzy's big band and they are among the best things Esther ever recorded.

    Verve LPRs

So guys, what happened to this series and the VME series anyway? It seems like Universal has flushed them down the john and discontinued these series. Maybe I have missed something in the postings here - what is up?
  21. Dakota was a treasure and she left us a lot of great music, especially the beautifully produced and recorded Capitol Lps of the late 50's early 60's. Benny Carter arranged a number of them - Her later recordings on Groove merchant are great as well. Mosaic should reconsider their re-issue project; and include the United Artists recordings from after the Capitol period. If you can find her CD issue from the Legendary Singers series on Capitol, that is a good place to start listening. There is also an excellent compilation out from EMI in the UK.
  22. Ordered on Sunday 10/1 and they arrived today Wednesday 10/4. Don't know how that happened so fast! I'm all the way in Nashville TN. Now, the last order took three and a half weeks.
  23. I buy them all the time - if you can find a Pioneer ELITE CT 05D or Pioneer CT 07D these decks digitally clean up old tapes like you would not believe. The sound is quite acceptable. I've even played ones from the 70's on these units and they sound great! You can pick one of these up on ebay or audiogon if you are patient. So, I still listen to them and collect them - there are some great jazz titles out there for like no money.
