  1. Yeah they really caught the essence of the whole era using period photography and design - it is the Capitol Tower art department all over again. Much better than in the recent past!
  2. New Nancy Wilson compilations on Capitol Jazz due 8/30 Great American Songbook is 2 Cds - the others are single CDs. Great selection of the best from her 60's albums.
  3. If they come out on Collectables, they will be manufactured by CEMA - the licensing branch of Capitol/EMI - they will probably sound OK. Collectables doesn't manufacture them, just licenses from the majors and markets them Collectables has had 3 Dakota Lps out for some time - - The Late Late Show (released in fake stereo "Duophonic" - thus the comments on bad sound), More Than The Most (True Stereo) and Dakota at Storyville (True Stereo). The "Storyville" album and the "More Than The Most" sound fine to me - I would much prefer Mosaic to do them as they would include all the non Lp singles (of which there were many)
  4. Very cool indeed - time to fire up the i tunes machine again!
  5. Wow thanks! I have met on line the original producer of the series, Don Hassler, maybe he can get us a complete list. His recollections of Capitol Records in the 50's are fascinating.
  6. Does anyone have a comlete list of the "Kenton Presents" series of 10" (H series) ; 12" Lps (T series) and 45 rpm Eps (EAP series) that were released on Capitol ca 1954 - 1955? Can't find much information on these anywhere - Thanks Rob Nashville, TN
  7. Great album- got it a couple of years ago when Universal issued it in Japan - the Japanese reproduced the "Kangaroo Pak" packaging - it opens in the middle like a pair of double doors. Great fun to read what you all have to say about it - there was a lot written in the package, but all in Japanese.
  8. Lon I agree! They missed it on that - most of us who really are into Lorez picked up both Impulse! Lp CD reissues from Japan - now if they had done the Argo "For Swingers Only" THAT would have been awesome - it is one of the best Lps in my collection! And hopelessly scarce too!
  9. Wonderful to have them - only one complaint. While I appreciate the vintage label reproductions used on the CDs themselves, they need to use the correct ones for the period. "6 Eye" Stereo labels on early and mid-fifties releases are not correct. They match the "Festival Session" CS series fine, but the earlier releases are not stereo and that kind of spoils the illusion. No complaint with the music though, but SONY needs to pay a little more attention to details - collectors do!
  10. I've always been attracted to the hard to find items. When this series first came out, the titles were very diffficult to find as Polygram was not distributing them through their normal channels. I had quite a time ordering them, I think the initial ones finally came through Tower and they had to get them from an independent distributor! I am lucky enought to own the whole sereis, I made them a priority to purchase at the time. You might find them by going to half.com, they are usually some of them listed there. Should be a challenge to put together at this point, but worth the trouble.
