  1. My preferred version of the above song...
  2. Just started listening to the Dodo Greene on Spotify. Couldn't get past "You Are My Sunshine" - wowza - now I remember why I sold my Conn years ago.
  3. Harold Vick - Steppin’ Out - one of my faves. Highly recommended.
  4. Definitely picking up Merry Go Round, Portrait of Shelia and Cliff Jordan - three titles that have somewhat escaped me over the years. I saw Shelia Jordan a few years ago in Chicago - man, she's a kick!
  5. I agree - I thought they were just going to be releasing some LPs via Vinyl Me, Please, not creating some expensive faux social club. And what are the six albums? I don't buy records just because they're records. A wasted opportunity. Does anyone own the Vinyl Me, Please version of Fancy Free by Donald Byrd. I'll admit I've almost joined their club to get that record.
  6. But I wanna join and become a true student of jazz.
  7. OK, what the heck is THIS? More info needed,
  8. Update - I received my replacement copy of Contours, and that one is fine (well, there was a scuff on the cover that rubbed off with my finger) and the vinyl is flat enough. I opened the first one (with the smashed corner) to see if that LP was flatter and to my dismay found that it was dished like the first Chick LP I received. It rocks back and forth. My replacement Chick LP was flat enough, but the jacket had a cut on the spine. And I say flat enough because they aren't perfect, but should play fine (haven't gotten the chance for a full play-through). Ugh. So out of 4 LPs I received 2 that are acceptable. I thought the quality control would be better on these reissues as they are being touted as "the definitive versions" of these albums. I'm hesitant to purchase anymore because of the run-around to try to get a nice copy. Are my expectations too high? Do I just have bad luck? Meanwhile, a EU pressed BN75 reissue of Unity I purchased was absolutely perfect. Frustrating.
  9. Track 05 - is that Dr. Lonnie Smith on the organ/vocalisations and Ronnie Cuber on bari? Track 06 - a post-Blue Note Big John Patton?
  10. Ugh, not having luck with the Tone Poet series - first copy of Now He Sings was dish warped (!) - haven't opened the replacement yet - and now I received Contours in a smashed box with a smashed corner on the gatefold (not acceptable for a new item IMO) and the replacement won't come for about two weeks - I know, I know...lame things to get upset over, but it still frustrates me.
  11. A little more info via Facebook... ”For the Blue Note 80 series we use an analog source whenever one is available (i.e. Herbie Hancock "Takin' Off" & Dexter Gordon "Doin' Allright" in the 1st batch). Some more recent titles like Robert Glasper "Canvas" have a digital master. Kevin Gray is mastering, and vinyl is being pressed at Optimal in Germany. Hope this answers your questions. Have a great day.”

  13. I edited my first post to add the info re: batch 4. I think I’ll be picking up Fancy Free and the 2 Elvins. Maybe upgrade my Ornette McMaster.
  14. Well, I went ahead and ordered the Duke Pearson Tender Feelin’s reissue, as well as Chick Corea’s Trilogy 2, the new John Scofield and Marc Johnson’s The Sound of Summer Running. I’ve been wanting the latter for years.
  15. I may pick up the Kenny Drew Trio and Jutta Hipp reissues - don't have those in the collection yet.
  16. Hey Everyone! I haven't been active on here in A WHILE, but this whole Blue Note 80th Anniversary has kind of drawn me out of the woodwork. Good to see so many familiar folks still around. I hope to be active again and stick around for a while, as I've started collecting vinyl recently and now a whole other world has opened up for me... Anyway, I've been searching around for info re: BN80 reissue campaigns and came across some info today regarding a reissue program in Japan. Apparently it's called The 80 Works and includes titles reissued on UHQCDs. There's some available now on dustygroove.com and I found some info on cdjapan about what's in each batch. I'm guessing 4 batches of 20 titles each. The 80 Works Batch 1 The 80 Works Batch 2 The 80 Works Batch 3 The 80 Works Batch 4 I didn't see this info in another thread, but if it is I apologize. There's also another series of reissues called Blue Note LA Revivals - I'm not sure how new these are, but I'd say its of interest nonetheless.
  17. I'm selling my Horace Parlan Mosaic CD set. Everything in fantastic shape. I don't think I ever opened the book, and CDs I-II & V are still sealed. Box in great shape too. Asking $125, and that includes shipping to a US address. International shipping will probably be a little more, but we can work it out. PM me if interested. Thanks.
  18. Can anyone who has the new Poppin' and Hank w/Sonny SHMs tell me if they use the TOCJ covers, the LP covers, or both? I read that Oblique has the old and new covers - is it 2 booklets/inserts or one on each side of the booklet? Thanks
  19. I've got the original Patton discs, but now with those bonus tracks I'm gonna have to pick them up. Also, I've regretted selling my copies of the TOCJs of Curtain Call and Poppin' for years now. It'll be good to have them back sounding better than ever.
  20. Whoah! Check this out.... Ronnie Foster Crazy! What else have they reissued from the vaults that has been hard to find previously?
  21. FYI - The Terry Pollard album is on digital stores now - iTunes, emusic.com, amazon.com - plus streaming at Spotify. It doesn't appear to be in the 'mastered for iTunes' program, but does seem to be an official release licensed to verse music group. There are other Bethlehem titles available this way as well. https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/terry-pollard/id844222786 http://www.emusic.com/album/terry-pollard/terry-pollard/14846887/ http://www.amazon.com/Terry-Pollard/dp/B00J43S29A Spotify - Terry Pollard – Terry Pollard
  22. Yeah, I saw that, thanks. It's been relisted because it didn't sell. One went for around $17 a few weeks ago. I missed it by like 10 cents!
