  1. I love Clifford Jordan. I first became a fan of his upon hearing Highest Mountain on Muse. About a month ago, I found a couple of his Mapleshade CDs for $1 apiece. I was so happy.
  2. I hope you have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
  3. Sonny is a national treasure. I'm glad to hear he's doing better.
  4. Here's a Beach Boys clip for those with a sense of humor: http://youtu.be/w-0CS-T1HUQ
  5. I look forward to the thread! I hope you'll be able to get back to Austin someday. The way I'm going, I may just end up where I started. lol
  6. Good luck with your move, Lon! I've had four long distance moves in the last ten years. My heart goes out to you. I respect that you are doing this for your parents.
  7. I have loved cds since I purchased my first player in 1986. I also loved vinyl and didn't got rid of my records. Fortunately, I was buying records, cheaply, in the late 80's and early 90's when people were getting rid of theirs because they were outdated. In recent years, I've been purchasing cds, cheaply, since most people think they're outdated. This is the definition of winning. I'm not getting into the war because I think they're both great in their owns ways. I love the way that the sound fills the air when I listen to a record and I enjoy the detailed sound and convenience of cds.
  8. There's an audiophile Phil Collins CD??? HOW COME NO ONE TELLS ME THESE THINGS???? Back to the RVGs: I generally enjoy them and share the opinion that it was nice while it lasted. I mean, I don't know about you guys, but every time I saw a thread with "New RVG's" in the title, it made my day better; finding some serious gems in the list made the announcement that much sweeter! I miss that! Really, the only RVG's that have disappointed me sonically are Horace Silver's SONG FOR MY FATHER and Wayne Shorter's SPEAK NO EVIL. I found a McMaster of the latter, thinking I would enjoy it better; turns out I still preferred the RVG. Of course, if we really wanted to be sick bastards, we could discuss.... Reverse polarization!!!!! Hey Big Al! I used to love those "New RVG's" threads too! With both the RVG's and the Connoisseur releases, I was in Heaven. Fortunately, I kept most of my McMasters when I got the RVG's. I find that I might like an RVG better on one stereo and like the McMaster of that album on another. I just find when I get hung up on the loudness wars stuff, I don't enjoy the music. I have been making a conscious effort to stop doing this. I want to love music like I used too. Ah, but if you could hear it on LP... LOL I've had Knucklebean on vinyl for years and never got into it. I need to give it another chance. I think I wasn't able to enjoy it for what it was. I wanted to hear late 60's Hutcherson. I purchased the Hutcherson Montreux cd from this series and have been enjoying it.
  9. I agree with you on these two. I tried telling people over on the Hoffman forums this but I was overruled. Hoffman himself has come out against these CDs so you're wasting your breath trying to convince them that they're not all bad. I sometimes post over there (under a different name - guess who I am ), but I feel that my time there has actually made me enjoy music less than I used to. I've been happy with many of the RVG cds but I feel like there must be something wrong with me for enjoying them. I do applaud Lon for his defense of them on that board. I remember when many of us weren't big fans of the McMasters, but they are exalted over there. I also don't get the buying audiophile cds for audiophile's sake. The day I buy an audiophile Phil Collins cd is the day I'll stick screwdrivers in my ears. I can appreciate a nice audiophile recording, but the music is more important to me than how it sounds. I'd prefer it have great sound but if it doesn't, it won't stop me from listening. I love my Benedetti Charlie Parker box and nothing is going to change my mind about it.
  10. Thanks!! Also, a happy belated birthday to you Tony! I'm sorry I missed the thread until it seemed to late for me to send a birthday greeting.
  11. Thank you all again for your kind birthday greetings!! I'm glad I'm back too, Big Al! It was a great birthday. I got a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster and Jaguar. They're my first new guitars in years.
  12. Happy belated birthday, my friend!
  13. Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a great one.
  14. Happy belated birthday!! I hope it was a good one.
  15. I was really sad to read that he had passed. Years ago, I used to think he was kind of a goofball, but now I've come to see that he really was a jedi master. I wish I could have his enthusiasm for life and his willingness to show it. Even if some people might make fun of me. I completely agree with what GoodSpeak said about making the obscure and mundane seem like something special. R.I.P. Huell. You made the world a better place.
  16. Happy New Year!! I hope it is a great year for all of us.
  17. I'm so sad for him. I can't believe that this happened. My heart breaks for everyone affected by this evil act.
