  1. Is that list in the chronological order of the recording dates? I've put the albums in the same order as they come in the box according to the Italian site, but yes, they were recorded in that order too according to this. F PS: According to Wikipedia, they were also released in that order, except Moto Grosso Feio, which came out after Odyssey...

  5. The newly reissued Ornette Coleman box at Atlantic, Beauty Is a Rare Thing, for £8.14 at Amazon UK. According to the description, Link F
  6. Yes. They come from George Avakian's collection - my guess is that these were found when they moved his and his wife's papers to NYPL (link). Before this, there was only one alternate from that session ("Shoe Shine Boy", IIRC). I'm really looking forward to the alternate of "Lady Be Good". F
  7. Pretty sure all Keynote sides on which Lester appeared will be included. I just sent a followup note asking about the Savoy sides (per jazztrain's remark), and what the Goodman sides specifically would be... will post once I hear back. There will be a single disc of Sony-licensed material. In addition to having so many of Young's best recordings gathered in a single set, I'm really looking forward to reading Loren Schoenberg's notes for this... he did a great job (as he always does) with Mosaic's last Prez outing. Thanks to both. The Savoys tend to slip my mind. (of Prez's studio recordings, I got those last). F
  8. Thanks, Ghost! One question, though: I guess that they will include the Keynotes with Johnny Guarnieri too? Do you know? By the look of it, it's going to be all Lester Young under Universal's umbrella plus the three alternates from the Jones-Smith Inc. session (hence the no-duplication with regard to the previous Lester Young Mosaic). This would make this set the first to combine recordings from different vaults (Universal/Sony) in many years, no? For me it's buy first, sort out the duplication later. F
  9. New box from Italy, although it looks like it'll be redundant for most people here. Herbie Hancock - The Blue Note Albums If the specs are correct, the CDs are identical to most recent (RVG) reissues, except for the missing alternate take of "Mimosa" in Inventions and Dimensions. Albums included are Takin' Off My Point of View Inventions and Dimensions Empyrean Isles Maiden Voyage Speak Like A Child The Prisoner F
  10. Taub was the maiden name of Esther, the Bihari's mother. According to Wikipedia, Joe Bihari was "Joe Josea", Jules Bihari was "Jules Taub", and Sam Bihari was "Sam Ling". As for who wrote "Three O'Clock Blues", the book in The Vintage Years, the 4-CD set by Ace records, credits it to "Riley B. King, Jules Taub", but in the accompanying paragraph it says F
  11. Thanks, Ubu. I've updated the list, plus links where available, including a new Paolo Fresu 8-CD box of Blue Note recordings. F
  12. Really? Guess you get one of these for free with each order:
  13. New box set: Chick Corea's GRP albums, 7 CDs, Link. F
  14. Thanks! But the inlay card on your CD, does it show 10 or 11 tracks? F
  15. As far as I know, physical copies of Kenny Barron and Dave Holland's Art of Conversation have 10 tracks. However, the inlay card in copies seen in Spain show a track #11, "Calypso", but it is not on the CD. iTunes carry that tune. Anyone knows whether there are physical CDs carrying 11 tunes? I know it's probably a misprint, but still... Thanks! F
  16. Pullen played Café Central (Madrid, Spain) several times. See this. I didn't know there were recordings of the shows, but EKE BBB may know more. F
  17. My main problem with the article is the recurring disclaimer inserted in the text. If you need a recurring disclaimer, what you need (probably, IMHO) is to change the text and get rid of the disclaimer. And second, repetition renders it invisible (at least for me). There's more in the line of historical inaccuracies (which I guess are covered by said disclaimer - it just doesn't make it for me). Maybe later. F
  18. Re: Tchakoura's Farlow. Expensive, but looks great, good edition, hardback, quality paper, plenty of images. Got it in London in 5 days. Mine is #523 from a limited run of 650 (according to ParisJazzCorner). F
  19. Thanks Bebop for the heads-up on Lulu. They seem to have a few books by Mark Miller. He's one of the good guys, his book on Charlie Parker in Canada (not on Lulu, I'm afraid) is the definitive account on the 1953 Massey Hall concert (proving that Ross Russell's version is mostly b.s.). And thanks, too, Big Beat Steve for the big Farlow book. I didn't know about it! F
