  1. Don't forget "Carlito's Way". I think a bunch of rappers even re-did that. As they did with Scarface too, btw...
  2. cool! how was it? as good as Shaft? JB I saw it back on good ole VHS, and I'd say it's one of the better ones in the blaxploitation genre. The main character is called Priest and he does coke with the cross around his neck. And yes, Eddie does indeed die.
  3. I don't know if he can be classified as a "neo soul singer", but like most in that genre, I feel like his work lacks depth to some extent. I think the comparison to Sly Stone is still pretty accurate. Mr Fiddler was also a big part (might even be his introduction or "debut", that's the first I've heard of him anyway) on a cd called "Detroit Experiment" on Ropeadope. He plays keyboards and does a pretty trippy solo version of Stevie's "Too High".
  4. When the world is annihilated by a series of nuclear blasts, one man survives to keep the cockroaches company.

    Pharoah Sanders

There's a 2CD compilation released by UK label Soul Brother, called "You've Got To Have Freedom - The Pharoah Sanders Anthology". Some of the songs have been edited, to make it a bit more "accessible". It's fine by me, sometimes Pharoah can be...a bit too much. It's not also Impulse! exclusive, but has stuff from his later years as well. ------ I also like this from 1973, "Village Of The Pharoahs"
  6. Should it be the "tree view" or not? Because I hated that and my forums look like that... Using Mozilla Firefox.
  7. Well, I have a certain hesitation when the personnel list contains two words. "Larry Young's Fuel" (ok, that's 3) and "voc".
  8. I picked this (the Superfly 2CD) up when it was reissued by Rhino, not knowing anything about the movie or (shame) Curtis...but the moment the riff from "Freddie's Dead" starts pumping, or the bassline to "Pusherman" - I was sold. Anyone heard this - "Mayfield Remixed"? Has a quite decent remix of Superfly (the track) by Louie Vega.
  9. Is this the McCartney Hate Club in session? I just came to say that I like "No More Lonely Nights" from 1984.

    Victor Feldman

And who can forget mr Feldman's classic Fender Rhodes solo on Steely Dan's "Black Cow" (from AJA)...
  11. Now, I'm as big of a fan of the 70's jazz-funk genre as anyone, and that sound, but I always found this cheesy. Well the title track is a small classic I guess, but "Macaroni" anyone??
  12. Without Sting the "other two" would be nowhere. (also, did I hear somewhere that they get $100 Million EACH for this tour?? yeah I would forget our "differences" too)
  13. Over composed, as Corea seems to be these days, but still better than the previous effort, "To The Stars". More Spanish flavored than prog-fusion.
  14. Tip: Let's say you want to remove an album from your iPod, but not from your computers hard drive. Delete the album in iTunes, but answer to the following questions that you want it removed from your library but KEEP the files. Then do 'Sync'; it doesn't show it, but it removes the album from your iPod along with the rest of your new adds or changes you made before syncing. ... I believe the problems with my configuration of an external HDD and iTunes freezing were caused by these things. First of all, I think iTunes (and/or my laptop) thinks that my hard drive and iPod should be connected to specific USB ports. If I connect them wrong, when iTunes tries to find the files in my library to sync iPod (which are on my external disc) it freezes the iPod. I think the same happens if the external hard disk isn't "ON". This is with autosyncing on.

    MICHAEL BRECKER

This is shocking news. Been "out of the loop", and heard about it just today.
  16. "Morph The Cat" was awesome! Or sure-fire Fagen, however you want to put it... "Stadium Arcadium" was overlong, monotonous, and boring with maybe half a dozen decent songs. Bad sequencing also.
  17. I got the new 80GB video iPod. I've got about 42GB of music on it, about 6000 songs, most in 160kbps to 192kbps. Using USB2.0, it takes the better part of two hours to completely change the iPod's "insides." Is this normal? I mean of course changing (or syncing) just a few albums takes only a few seconds. The reason I ask because iTunes is a piece of crap and keeps freezing all the time, also messing up my iPod if it was in the middle of syncing. Mind you, my mp3's are stored on an external hard drive. Also - what do you think of the battery life? I guess having better quality files takes more juice than Apple's standard 128kbps. Because I can get nowhere the numbers Apple says it should last.
  18. To the guy who compared JB's music to "bubblegum" (?) or sth ... The influence of their rhythmic approach, the riffs etc. is way more than something that can be dismissed basically as 'useless'. Ok, James' tunes weren't always great "pop songs" per se, but that's hardly the point, where as the grooves they built are. Plus, he had a genuinely personal sound as a singer (or a "proto-rapper" whatever that is) too - and the dude could sing his ass of too ("This Is a Man's World"...).
  19. R.I.P. Didn't see this one coming... He was a giant, a true legend etc. Influenced everybody from Miles to hip-hop. HE was the king of rock, pop and soul.
  20. There's one on this. The recording quality is truely crap though.
  21. Me too, but I have a feeling even if they did a "comeback", it probably wouldn't reach its former heights. A different time, different personalities.
  22. edit: sorry didn't see for some reason there was a thread already about this...
