  1. The Chu Berry set is (was?) my favourite set so far. Unfortunately you'll be waiting a long time to get these tracks as part of a complete Fletcher Henderson or Cab Calloway set out of Mosaic. Anyway, bring on the Chick Webb! (and the others Mosaic, so I can give you all my money)
  2. I would be totally okay with that, as long as they start with 1941
  3. Well, I greatly enjoy those recordings on Chronogical Classics. I doubt if anyone would ever have thought of issuing the material in excellent sound. Would enough people be sufficiently interested in Millinder to secure a profit for the company doing to? We're all jazz fans (to some degree) on this board, but I bet there are precious few of us who have these 3 CDs. Fewer than 6, I'd guess. MG Well I'm #2. Good sound would be the goal. My fantasy wish list is for good music that has only ever been released in relatively muddy sound and could use an overhaul. Lucky Millinder falls into that category and I would hope that anyone with an interest in Swing Era dance music or early Rhythm and Blues would snap such a thing up.
  4. I was wanting that recently released early Earl Hines set for ages, so now that that's done, next on my fantasy Mosaic list is a 30s/40s Charlie Barnet set (there's not much out there in good sound). Otherwise something like an Andy Kirk/Mary Lou Williams set, or a 40s Lucky Millinder set would be next on my dream list.
  5. Fantastic - looking forward to it now! Hopefully the Ella/Webb set will be released around the same time and I can get them shipped together.
  6. I might be missing your point, but the track name/artist information is not stored on the CD. With something like iTunes or WMP, it looks up a database (such as Gracenote) that uses track lengths and numbers as a key to user-supplied data. If there are multiple albums with the same arrangement of tracks, it can assign the wrong one, or can assign another users' poor attempt at naming the tracks.
  7. A Mildred Bailey Mosaic set just sold for $380. I really wish I'd been into this music when these earlier sets were released!
  8. I really enjoyed this set (minus some of the balladeering). Great remastering job and some really exciting, propulsive big band.
  9. Wait, have people got their copies already? Weird, I haven't even got a shipping notice *anxious*
  10. Thanks all - Yeah, I'll always rate a good performance over recording quality, but I'll always want the best remastering available.
  11. Hi everyone, I realised I have very little Charlie Parker and I'm interested in getting his early recordings in the best sound available. Would the JSP set be the best way to go on this?
  12. The sound samples posted already sound better than on any other disc I own. Ordered!
  13. Sorry to hijack this conversation, but I'm also interested in getting a decent sound system (and looking at B&W offerings), but I was wondering what I should be looking for if I mostly listen to pre-1950s jazz? Are there benefits to having a quality speaker/sub setup if the dynamic range was never there to begin with? Thanks in advance.
  14. I looked this up too. He also recorded 6 tracks for Decca in 1935 if i'm not mistaken. Does Mosaic ever do combined Universal(Decca) and Sony/BMG sets?
  15. Erskine Hawkins would be a good follow up. I was thinking 30s Earl Hines would be a good choice too.
  16. Mine finally arrived!! (I live about as far away from Connecticut as you can get!) #401 Looking forward to it!
  17. Yes, that's it. Once you have entered in all the info (name, artist, year, album...) you click on that and it means the rest of us don't have to put it in manually.
  18. Just make sure you spell everything correctly when you submit the track names for the rest of us
  19. Can't wait!! And hopefully they'll be able to back it up with the Chick Webb box for Christmas! (then Earl Hines, then Charlie Barnet please )
  20. That Atlantic set looks really nice. Is the audio quality okay with the earlier tracks?
  21. I think I'd prefer it if they charged me when I preordered. That way they can have my cash upfront and use to make awesome things happen, plus I don't get a surprise charge months later after I've forgotten that I've ordered it.
  22. Bummer; got an email saying my order was cancelled because they ran out
