  1. Mosaic on Spotify

Wow, quite a lot there. I'll report back in 277hrs
  2. I think the Mildred Bailey set might be available too. I'd love to see a few more OOP Mosaics that I missed become available, even if it's not quite the same as having a nice box set.
  3. It looks like this set has been rebranded and added to digital services (Apple Music, Spoify etc) by Sony as "Chu Berry: The Columbia and Victor Sessions". I haven't checked but it looks the same as the Mosaic. So if you missed out (on what is my favourite Mosaic release), now's your 2nd chance!
  4. This list really appeals to my tastes. Probably a fantasy at this point, but for what it's worth, I'd especially like: Complete Fletcher Henderson Duke Ellington 1924-1930 Sony Henry “Red” Allen/J.C. Higginbotham 1929-1946 Sony sessions (great concept!) Charlie Barnet 30s/40s Sony (Bluebird etc)
  5. New Woody Herman Mosaic

I was just wondering about this and noticed that the expected release date now says June 2019
  6. Just gotta say that I would have bought this set for the live Count Basie material alone. Although the audio quality is fairly poor - they're tantalizing insights into what a live powerhouse the 1938 band were. That Carnival of Swing gig must have been epic. I especially loved hearing a few familiar studio cuts played at slower tempos and with extended (likely the intended) arrangements. Recommended!
  7. New Woody Herman Mosaic

I missed the first email - I knew about it but was just going to wait for the regular release. Glad I checked in here - I've now pre-ordered! I think this is a step in the right direction. Deluxe jazz box sets of CDs are becoming a super-niche market. A kickstarter-like approach makes the most sense moving forward. They could even have some kind of vote as to which set to do next to gauge demand. I also think they should take the money upfront and use it to fund the project. Much easier to spend X months making a set when you have the funding already secured.
  8. Forrrest/Goodman - Perfidia Alternate Take

Damn, that was awesome. Not sure what happened at the end there though.
  9. This. No one has mentioned the swing dance scene. It's young (mostly 20-30 somethings), growing, global and they are geeking out to Lester Young and Johnny Hodges and Jimmie Lunceford. Its fun and social and helps bring an identity to those that feel left out of the mainstream. It's nowhere large enough to rescue jazz reissue projects, but it's helping re-energise the musicians who play in that realm and bringing a younger crowd to vintage jazz.
  10. This increasingly seems like the only way this kind of work will get done in the future. It always surprised me that they didn't take my money until the sets actually shipped. But as pointed out many times here, there are a lot of factors conspiring to make to production of lavish physical box sets unviable. Maybe we need a jazz version of Jack White to get it done for the good of humanity.
  11. Sets you wish Mosaic would do

I would buy all of those! The one that gets me most excited is "A Henry 'Red'Allen/J.C Higginbotham set along the lines of the Chu Berry set thus including Fletcher Henderson an MBRB recordings". That Chu Berry set is perhaps my all-time favourite.
  12. Teddy Wilson Mosaic?

If I've got all the Teddy Wilson HEPs, what would I be missing that this set would cover (in theory)?
  13. The Bill Savory Collection

HUGE NEWS!! ‘The Savory Collection,’ a Mythical Trove of Jazz Recordings, Will Get a Digital Release http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/23/arts/music/savory-collection-apple-music-coleman-hawkins.html
  14. I’ve been thinking about this again. I don’t suppose there’s any update on the possibility of a CD release? I guess if you want to have the musicians’ estates contact you, release a disc or 20 and they’ll return the call.
  15. New Lester Young set from Mosaic Records coming

Excellent, This is what I was hoping to hear. Mine arrives soon.
  16. New Lester Young set from Mosaic Records coming

I’d love to get your initial thoughts.
  17. New Lester Young set from Mosaic Records coming

This is now shipping! Can't wait!
  18. New Lester Young set from Mosaic Records coming

I'm a little uneasy that a big portion of it is sourced from CDs I already own, but there's enough that's new or promising that I'll buy it anyway.
  19. Mosaic's forthcoming James P. Johnson set

I'm loving it too. I think these sets that explore one artist through many different bands/combos are my favourite.
  20. Mosaic's forthcoming James P. Johnson set

    JP Johnson just shipped!
  21. Mosaic's forthcoming James P. Johnson set

Ordered! I'm not usually one for a lot of piano solos, but I think this set will still be rather good.
  22. There's some OOP Mosaic sets that were released before I started collecting jazz that I'm still keen on, but I think these types of sets are under assault from multiple angles; Collecting physical copies of media is going out of fashionJazz is a niche market that (I would guess) is shrinking in popularityAvailability is less of a problem that needs solving nowadays.Quality is one of the few remaining selling points, and a lot of people don't seem to care that much.
  23. Agreed! There's so much Swing Era stuff like this that's never been given the love of restoration or a comprehensive release. Love your work Mosaic!
