  1. I've been happy with their LPs to date. The one time I did have a defective disk they shipped out a replacement from the US pretty pronto.
  2. Yeah, it's nice - and very varied stylistically too, something for everyone for the audience who were there. Originally wasn't going to get this one on LP but succumbed. Sonically it isn't audiophile but is very acceptable. I'm not a fan overall of the Yusef Atlantics and this one is very much in his acoustic/non-fusion bag. Lots of solo space for Kenny Barron, not surprisingly.
  3. Yusef Lateef 'Atlantis Lullaby - The Concert From Avignon' (Elemental 2LP)
  4. On the second disk from 1966 with the Penthouse broadcasts, Ruth adds a vocal to the short 3rd track of each broadcast. Works well ! As mentioned in the booklet, she was also a good friend of Manne and helped him to scout out the location of the Manne-Hole club.
  5. Shelly Manne and His Men 'Jazz From The Pacific Northwest' (Reel to Real 2LP) A definite find - Monterey and Penthouse, Seattle recordings by 2 groups in good sound.
  6. He effectively curated my whole jazz listening life, apart from the UK stuff. Right from the time I saw those brown bag twofers put out with Charlie Lourie in the little provincial shop window - as if from Mars. Huge and grateful thanks to him for this gift.
  7. My local still had LP copies this morning so succumbed and will give it a spin later on. Bread and jam for the next month ! He has over-done himself with good stuff this year. Thank goodness this is only an annual thing.
  8. I have a signed photo on my wall by Cecil Spiller sans Howard that must have been taken at the same time - Shelly and Max are wearing the same shirts.
  9. Picked up the Manne on vinyl earlier today - only spun LP1 as yet but the sound of that Monterey Fest gig is very good and the playing is strong. As with the Don Ellis recording about a decade later there is a booming USCG plane buzzing the stage during Manne's drum solo on LP1 side 2.
  10. I'm shocked and so saddened to read this, we owe him so much. A life very well lived - RIP.
  11. Cool. Zawinul and McCurdy are in the lineup, Victor Gaskin on bass on the LPs.
  12. Almost picked up the vinyl of this today but the budget was already blown out of the water so resisted. The track on Ken Dryden's RSD podcast from this one sounded nice.
  13. Recorded 1969 so - yes. The LPs kick off with a burning version of Nat's 'The Scavenger'. There's also an early version of the tune 'Experience In E', another highlight.
