  1. Well, congratulations to the Cleveland Indians! GO Cubs! Ageed. Though here again, the press and anybody with access to baseball stats, have been saying the same thing about the Giants since Bochy became their manager. The Giants are much more than a statistic or a side-by-side comparison. How else can we explain three WS rings in five years. One would have been a fluke. Three makes the statement: It was and is all about heart and the intangibles of the game.
  2. Exactly. The game is on the field, not on paper. BTW...the Giants were once known to have the best bullpen in the NL and with one of the lowest ERAs. This year and much of last year, the bullpen fell apart. That's what killed them. 34 blown saves and a closer who wasn't. It happens. So, we try again next season. Then this: And I quote: " These Giants, then, are different. They entered each of their charmed seasons with little national hype." Untraditional Dynasty in the Making
  3. Actually it was pretty much the same roster with a few changes. Same manager. Same style of play. Even if everything was different the same traditional "issues" were there and the Giants still won three WS rings. My point is it is no fluke. That is the design. I know the game and my team. BoSox, OTOH, are a far better team on paper. But the net results were not the same. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Dan. Feel free to disagree. But the Giants are what they are and have been very successful by any standard of measurement. BTW...the BoSox are only 6 games better, got swept in the ALDS, won no post season games [Giants won 2] and yet you call out Giants' suckage? As to any "failure", nobody wins the WS or the division evry single year, Dan. Including your BoSox. And you still haven't answered my question.
  4. Again, an over simplification...and you still haven't answered my question: "Explain to me, then, how this allegedly sucky team won three WS trophies in seven years?" You know, it constantly amazes me how people who don't follow the Giants are always claiming to be the experts on the Giants. Like those of us who do have no idea what is happening or have any sort of knowledge about the game. Maybe you're wrong...is it even possible? Believe what you want, Dan. BTW...how'd the Red Sox do? Oh...oops.
  5. Over simplification, Dan. As per usual, you fail to acknowledge the intangibles of the game. Explain to me, then, how this allegedly sucky team won three WS trophies in seven years? This is the same type of team, with the same less-than-stellar statistics and with the same manager. The difference in 2016 was the pen. 34 blown saves. That's it. In short, your argument simply does not stand up to the light of reason.
  6. One final thought: I'm not saying the Cubs aren't a very good and well coached team. Their top three starting pitchers are excellent. No doubt. But please do not tell me the team, as a whole, is better than the Giants. They have some stars, we have some stars. Defensively the Giants are as good as anybody. Offensively, no HR hitters per se, but these guys scratch out hits. That is the Giants' way. They won three WS trophies doing just exactly that. This whole notion that they have to be like the '24 Yankees to be considered a good team is nonsense. The bullpen, is and was the problem all year long. Period. The Giants have heart, determination and a never say die attitude which has carried them since Bochy became the manager. Because that cannot be measured in some type of statistic or doesn't measure up to the Big Red Machine or the A's of the 70s is in no way shape or form an indication they are not a top quality team. The concept outsiders always miss is those intangibles are what drive the Giants. Maybe they aren't flash and dash, maybe they don't have drama queens like Puig and even maybe on paper they don't quite measure up, but they still finished in 2nd place in a very competitive NL West and they still won an amazing ten do or die games in a row in the post season. And to discount them simply because they aren't the big, scary stompers of the past is condescending at best and more than a little bit naive. Baseball is not only about who has the biggest bats or the nastiest slider. It's about heart. And NObody can take that away from the Giants who not one person believed, except those of us who knew the Giants, they could do so well in the post season these past seven years. Nobody. But they did it anyway. And I am proud to say I am a Giants fan now and forever. RESPECT.
  7. Matt Moore pitched well but, once again, the bullpen turns a three run lead into a one run loss in the 9th. 34 blown saves this season. What a fitting end to the Giants' season. For next year, I sincerely hope Giants' management goes after guys who can actually hold a lead. Wow. Go Cubs. Go Nats.
  8. I figure if Moore can't cut it, Suarez or even Blach will come in...perhaps even Cueto, if needs be. Bochy isn't going to let the Giants lay down and play dead. Cubs will have to beat the Giants.
  9. Thanks, Catesta. It was a real struggle and your guys showed me something last night, too. A tough team. They'll be back.
  10. Gillaspie! Three run jack! MadBum goes 9. GIANTS WIN! GIANTS WIN! GIANTS WIN!
  11. To win, the Giants will have to beat the Mets and the Umps. Amazing.
  12. Well, congratulations, Mets. The safe call that wasn't and a two ball strike out all in the 4th. I think it is pretty obvious who MLB wants to win. Wow.
  13. Should be a good one, Catesta. Your Ace vs our Ace. Though, I'm hoping for a Giants win myself.
  14. Well...it's go hard or go home time for the Giants. However, after sweeping the Dodgers last weekend (I was there Saturday; great game), the inclusion of rookie Ty Blach [and his 8 inning gem] and Romo closing out the last two games with a nifty slider, anything can happen. If the Giants can get past the Mets tonight, all bets are off. This is one dangerous team in the playoffs. GO Giants!
  15. It's 6:21PM in California on August 12th and the Dodgers still suck.
  16. Duffy to the Rays for LHP Miller. Hm And the Giants are sucking wind right now. I blame the All-Star break. They lost their momentum.
  17. I think he was a good pick-up, TBH. Now all he needs is some offensive support...and a bullpen which can close the deal.
  18. Yup. 1st time in 40 years a NL manager has declined to use the DH. MadBum went 4-1 with a single and scored a run. BTW....the San Francisco Rivercats [Giants] are holding up pretty well considering all the injures. Best record in baseball right now. However, I will offer my kingdom for a bullpen; aka, the Arson Squad. 18 blown saves. Leads the league. Ugh. How I look every time Casilla or Strickland come in to pitch.
  19. What a nice guy, Dan. Giants are looking pretty good right now. Three sweeps and have won 13 out of the last 14 games. Woot!
  20. The good news is the snow pack in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near where I live was 91% of normal. Last year it was 20% of normal. Problem is we will need four more years like this to get the water table back up. ******* I remember when one of the letters fell down on the Hollywood sign and it read Hollwod. Dr. Dimento, a local DJ at the time, had a field day with that one.
  21. I serve on our Homeowners Association Board of Directors and we hear all sorts of excuses why people can't pay their HOA dues in a timely fashion. We will give them a couple late pay opportunities, but when it becomes chronic then we take them to task. Just my two cents.
