  1. Nice to see a thread dedicated to Frank Zappa. My personal favorite album of his is One Size Fits All featuring George Duke and Jean Luc Ponty. And I believe Johnny Guitar Watson is on that LP, too.
  2. Hey, Jon! Glad things are on an upswing for you. Missed hearing from you on FB, too. Now I know why. Best, Tim
  3. Gladly and gratefully, I am still here though the battle with this cancer wages on. My numbers have leveled off, but as Mark knew and I know, there is no cure for this cancer. And so it goes. Hope all is well with you as well, Dan.
  4. My first time here in a few years and I am deeply saddened Mark has passed. He and I have/had the same cancer; multiple myeloma. I am glad my numbers have leveled off and that I am still here. This one hurts. Rest in Peace, Mark.
  5. I’m back. Anybody miss me? 😉
  6. My second favorite James Bond after Sean Connery. I must confess that it took some time to get "used" to the change from Sean Connery's James Bond to Roger Moore's version, but I absolutely loved the intelligent wit and grace Moore brought to the character. His upper-crust like expressions and droll delivery were a perfect fit for the numerous stunts and gags as 007 defeated villain after endless seemingly inescapable challenge. Pure James Bond fun and a joy to watch. He will be missed.
  7. Exactly, Paul. I see the numbers as a passing interest. I live for that journeyman bench player hitting .152 or some low BA who comes to bat in a winner take all game situation only to jack one out of the park on a two-strike count. That's the fun in the game after all: The underdog makes good. Travis Ishikawa anyone? WAR would have placed him at the bottom of the heap.To wit: <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZFKDsFYj3E4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  8. Just leave the game alone. I mean, if eliminating the Intentional walk or timing pitchers or narrowing the strike zone to above the knee are improvements, then I'm the Easter Bunny.
  9. Lost about five pounds so far. But at 62, weight loss comes very slowly. The good news is my pants fit better and I feel better.
  10. A fair point, Larry. However, I should like to think scouts and GMs place the performance they see over WAR. Good point. But here again, when folks place so much value on numbers often is the time they stop considering what happens on the field. The Giants are a perfect example. On paper, they never should have won the World Series in 2010, 2012 or 2014. On the field, it was quite a different story. Yup.
  11. IMHO, the Baseball HOF is fast becoming a nice guys only good ol' boy club. "Integrity" and being a squeaky clean, really nice guy seems to have pushed out exemplary play on the field. Do/say/take something untoward or piss off the writers who vote and your chances of getting in go right down the tubes. Bunch of snowflakes voting now. Then there's Tim Raines who used coke. Wow. Must have smiled a lot.
  12. I know I'll probably catch hell for this, but except for W/L, BA and ERA, statistics just ruin the game for me. Whether it's WAR or OPB or career SO/BB, it is only numbers crunching to me. IMHO, and for my continued enjoyment of a game I have loved since I was 7, the play on the field is all that matters to me. And, to be perfectly frank, that is all that matters at the end of the game. Just my two cents....
  13. Bottled water. Off the wine for a while [6 weeks now]. Was gaining WAY too much weight.
  14. Dear Red Sox, Please keep Pablo Sandoval or trade him to somebody, ANYbody else. Thank you. A diehard Giants fan. Carry on.
  15. Then this happened: Three Giants win Gold Gloves.
  16. Thank you...a fun day with my wife and daughter.
  17. The Giants need a bullpen with an actual closer. That is all. Carry on. Oh and Congratulations to Cubs fans everywhere. Well done!
