  1. Does anyone have a suggestion for sleeves for these slightly-odd-shaped reissues? I'm experiencing the same blemish issues everyone else is, obviously. Would these work, for example?
  2. I don't know, man--it's Bob. Not much in his career he hasn't done just for the reaction (I'm a super-fan, and that's still my opinion).
  3. Tom--I don't know when you're wheels down in DC, but I just got a note that Stanley Cowell is playing soon at the Bohemian Caverns. Stanley Cowell!!! Who knew?
  4. So bummed out I missed the philly show, man. I really wanted to bring my daughter--she would have loved it. Sadly, I had to jet west to assist ailing parents. Next time for sure--glad the gigs are going well!
  5. Well, that's easy--I'll add my review and bump it up. Others might follow suit? This record should sell hundreds of copies per year.
  6. I'm thinking I wish I weren't almost 3,000 miles away from my wife and daughter. I'm thinking about the fragility of life when a child has to become the father to the man. And I'm thinking that Stephen Stills must have had that experience, because his singing, to which I'm currently listening, is the perfect soundtrack. That being said--I'm also thinking about ducking in on friends from the old 'hood who I haven't seen in 20 years. Stills works for that too!
  7. Love it. Many thanks for the heads up--have wanted to see Cecil for years.
  8. I've really been digging these reissues as well. Edited to say a complete list, though somewhat unwieldy, appears here: CTI 40th Anniversary Discography
  9. Was just at J&R last weekend to pick up a bunch of the new CTI reissues. Almost everything was $5.99. Never before have I walked out of a record store with a bag of 15 new CD's for under $100.
  10. Ortliebs closed a while ago, sadly. Chris' is about it; it's pathetic, particularly for a city that used to have jazz on every other corner. There might be other places I'm not thinking of; you should have brad get in touch with the Ars Nova people. Many links in the Philadelphia Concerts thread.
  11. Bertrand--do you know if they're taking this show to NYC?
  12. Marcus--I recall Amazon was an issue for you, old friend--happy to grab this and send it to Rio. Let me know! Cheers! http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002IQ9QY/ref=sr_1_1_olp?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1302375569&sr=1-1&condition=used This isn't a bad price for a two CD set.
  13. Better youtube trawling: Most definitely not puppinis...but loads of circular breathing nonetheless
  14. Super psyched for the Philly show! John, man, I'd love to bring Olivia (she'd love the insanity!) but it's way past her bedtime. Maybe next swing you'll do a daytime show at Penns Landing or something!
  15. Friday, May 6!!! Ron, Kirby, Alan--maybe Allen--let's make a night of it!
  16. Are we including classical in the mix? If so, I have several sets of symphonies (mostly Beethoven and a few Brahms) on 12" 78's. All bound together in a book. Lots of flipping!
  17. Thanks for the heads up, Michael. Really wish I could make it, but I'm Mr. Mom this weekend! Will definitely catch the live stream, though.
  18. Yo Johnny--new dispatch: They aren't that different from what I know. GBM is older & more established...and more scrubby. Cafe Orwell is newer and probably more clean. That's all I've got. Let me know which one it is and we'll try to catch the show.
  19. DAMN. Sucks hard. Saw him in New York a bit ago and it was a killin' set.
