Two points. 1) You added the word "cheating" to your topic. It is not cheating to tape signals. In fact, it is STILL perfectly legal to tape those signals as long as it's from an approved spot. 2) The rule forbidding sideline filming was not instituted until 2006.

When this passes, it will go down as "The Beatle Rule", just as the US version that was passed was called "The Mickey Mouse Rule". It's going to pass because there is money being made on early 60s rock and roll. Now that "public domain" is going to start selling, the owners of that copyright are going to start screaming - loudly.

Sony's W3000 series of LCDs are nice. Mitsubishi's LCDs are nice too. I love mine. Don't eliminate the Pioneer and Panasonic plasmas. Both have beautiful pictures and are a lot less susceptible to burn-in. If I had an unlimited budget, I'd probably get a Pioneer Kura 1080p plasma.

The funniest thing about this government-funded program is they set a spec that no box can exceed, not meet. In effect, they are forcing electronics manufacturers to make a box with severely limited capability. The unit cannot output the signal with anything but 75 Ohm coax. So if a box has composite, S-video, component or HDMI, it does not qualify for the government coupon. So who benefits? Well, the only companies making these simpleton boxes are some Chinese firms that sell mainly through Walmart. As you can guess, they're happy. BTW, I am very glad that the thread starter used "TV antenna users" in the topic. It's really bugs me to walk around electronics stores today and hearing TV salesmen telling potential customers that they "have to buy a new TV with a digital tuner or in February 2009, you'll get a blank screen". I want to smack these people upside the head. Total BS. The only people who have to worry are those who get their TV over the air. Cable companies are not switching to 100% digital. I have the JRVG disc that I'd trade. Unfortunately, I did not get the CD art. Instead, the artwork is a very high-quality scan/print. It looks very legit. I bought this CD from someone here a few years ago. As I said, I'd gladly trade discs if you don't mind the lack of original art. I prefer McMaster's mastering in most cases. Kevin

The current Johnny Hodges set is one of my favorite Mosaic boxes ever. It was great to be able to recommend it whenever anyone asked for a quick rec. Now what will I say?

If you buy a standalone video card, it will have it's own video processor chip. If you use the on-board graphics card, it uses your PC's processor. Processors generate heat with more processing=more heat. If you stick in a separate video card, you lower the processor strain on both. Make sure you find a "half-height" video card and if you can afford it, pay a bit more for a high-end card that has a video CPU fan. BTW, your on-board graphics card probably has only 8 MB of your system RAM allocated for video. Most standalone video cards have at least 256 MB of RAM. You will be amazed when you play some games with a real video card. I just did this for my daughter, who is a big Syms freak, and she couldn't believe how much stuff she couldn't see before. Kevin

I assume you mean Dell's "Low profile" desktop? If you have one of these, the cooling fan is part of the power supply. It's pretty easy to change. I've swapped out a few. A word of advice if you do choose to go this route: order it new from Dell. It's only about $20 more than a refurb and it's guaranteed to work. Another thing to consider that helps cool it down is to add a video card rather than use the on-board graphics. On-board graphics heats up the system because it's almost always doing something. If you get card, try to get one with it's own fan (hard to do in a "half-height card"). Kevin

Believe me, I've been asking and asking and asking - every time I talk to Blue Note about reissues. Apparently, Leo's music has not sold well for Blue Note. That carried over to the CD era. The CD issue of "Rolling With Leo" was probably only in print for about 2 years in the late 80s. Since the Japanese have not seen fit to release it, it should have a market. But still, it sits. A lot of bari sax fans are missing out on a great, swinging date.

Dan, where are you reading that? When Rodney Harrison got busted, I read all I could find on HGH. I thought it was a steroid. But after reading about it, it looked to me that HGH shouldn't even be against the rules. It probably doesn't do anything. Many of it's reported benefits have never been clinically proven. It does not make everything grow bigger, it replaces an enzyme the everyone loses as they age and they no longer need to grow. I couldn't find one report of an adult who took HGH and grew. It looked to me like the only people who could benefit from taking it are short adolescents. Taking HGH continues their "growth spurt". But adults? I couldn't find anything that said it stopped the aging process. According to one article I read, it has become a rich man's "fountain of youth", with a lot of stars buying it in an effort to stay young.

Just finished: Sal Salvadore - Starfingers (Bee Hive) Some nice Brignola solos. Too bad this pressing sucks the big one. Several skips on a minty-looking Side 1. No amount of cleaning has fixed it. Up now: Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan - Spirit Within (Elektra Musician) OK but it has some of that annoying whiny bass typical of 1980's recordings. The drummer, someone named Steve Bagby, is pretty good.

Actually I think Blue Serge is still available because of it otherwise... Why pay that? www.vinyl.com has 3 different versions available new. Might not sound as great as an original, but should sound fine and you save hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars.
