This became the way you had to log into the forum after the 2022 software update. I think Jim posted about that somewhere but I cannot find it at this time.
It's supposed to make it harder to hack into your account.

Part of me thinks that it is terrible that this music doesn't belong to his heirs but if that turns out to be the case, bravo. After what the estate did to the music industry with their bullshit lawsuit win against Robin Thicke & Pharrell Williams, it would make me happy to see them lose here.

What a coincidence - I just heard this for the first time last night at a local restaurant in Kittery, Maine called The Black Birch. One of the things that makes this tiny restaurant unique is they only play vinyl LPs and the orange vinyl caught my eye.

What I've never been sold on is the title ... its not trumpet fireworks but is "Quiet" really the best adjective? "Quiet" almost implies Blue Hour or Feelin' the Spirit level of ennui (or so I have heard, I don't buy it myself) but this is hard swing at a medium tempo: Percolatin' Kenny!
If you ever come across the XRCD of "Quiet Kenny", I remember it sounding much better than the OJC CD. This XRCD is made in Japan so maybe it has the same mastering as your Japanese CD.

Just listened again to that 6CD set again recently. Very enjoyable and the sound is not bad at all. I'm tempted to get the similar Dexter Gordon set.
I dumped both of those sets years ago because I found the sound harsh, which I blamed on the SBM mastering. Maybe with my failing hearing, I could listen to these now.
Barney Wilen with the Mal Waldron Trio - French Story (Pony Canyon UHQCD). I blame Lon for buying this. Years ago, I was not a big fan of Wilen and sold off a bunch, maybe even a few to him, and moved on. Now here I am, probably 25 years later, with 16 Wilen discs in my collection.

I'm pretty sure that is why this CD was released in Japan. The box set had just come out in 1998 & I bet there were Japanese buyers who were not happy that they would have to buy that box if they wanted to hear these alternates. I also think that's why it is so rare. In general, the Japanese buyers don't seem to miss these alternate takes. A lot of Japanese CDs don't add anything to the original LP and they still sell.

Herbie Hancock - Riot (Blue Note Japan). This somewhat rare Japanese CD of alternate takes from several of Herbie's Blue Note sessions was released in 1999 and didn't seem to sit on the shelves for long. All of these alternates have been released on various CDs over the years but I picked this up mainly due to its rarity.

Mark Masters is still at it. I have a couple of his more recent CDs, a Gary McFadden tribute, "Wish Me Well" (2006) & an Ellington tribute, "Ellington Saxophone Encounters" (2012). I bought both mainly because they have Gary Smulyan on them but I have no regrets as there is some great playing by all on these two.

Looking at the recording studio, I am surprised by the solid reflective surfaces all around the band members. Most studios seem to have sound absorbing materials on the walls.

Old cars & motorcycles are great to look at, no doubt; but in general, they really aren't anywhere near as fun to drive as a modern car, especially those old American boats that cornered like a whale.
And don't get me going on those old Indian motorcycles with the suicide foot clutch, stick shift, left hand throttle advance & right hand spark advance. I don't know how my father ever drove those things.

Dan - Maybe it's just me, but it seems like you're fishing for some anti-Eric Alexander sentiments here. I don't feel like playing that game.
This video is about a new improv course Alexander is selling to beginners based on his years of teaching the subject. Of course his basic premise is going to be "Play changes", as it is pretty good advice for beginners.

BTW - on both nights, we tried going to Smalls, which is a block away from Mezzrow, but on both nights, they were completely sold out, even the standing room areas. I guess that's good news for these clubs.

I didn't think this was that impressive. I mean, yeah, he played the Pink Panther theme and soloed for a few bars, but it wasn't anywhere near as impressive as some of his actual Jazz performances.
