  1. especially if they and the campus station give the gig adequate promotion...
  2. My wife really likes my hanging out here. She digs the music, she enjoys Organissimo's latest CD, and she appreciates the things I print out from these forums (usually articles from the Politics forum and articles about her favorite musicians). She's usually a very busy person. Otherwise, she might visit here too.
  3. Eleven (11), including compilations.
  4. I think my first one was the Mingus. In a period of financial need, I sold my Larry Young I've since bought my favorites from that collection.
  5. I have 35-48, depending on how it's calculated.
  6. That would be one cool shopping center. Guy ←
  7. I don't know fully why Miles Davis recordings still sell so well. I agree that the promotion of his recordings and its attendant availability have been major factors, and the breadth of his music allows for many inviting entry points. What I know for sure is that I have most of Miles's recordings from Parker days till about 1972, and Miles's music has found its way to my stereo a disproportionate amount of times since 1967 or 68. The effects of any promotion and his force as a contemporary figure have, for me, faded significantly over the years, but the appeal of the music itself has not diminished.
  8. BIG NEWS: EVERYBODY'S GONNA DIE. I thought the ending was a bit cheesy - providing some kind of closure-to-the-max I guess. And, except for Keith, it appeared that most lived to ripe old ages, not straying very far at all from usual ideal death circumstances... I would have found it more enjoyable if the show had ended 10-15 minutes earlier.
  9. I had the Inner City (?) LP since way-back-when and now have the Japanese CD. I've never had a problem with Roger Blank's drumming.

    Bobo Stenson

It's my favorite too, of his trio recordings. I also like "Underwear" from early on. For discussion of Stenson's earlier recordings, please see the Album of the Week thread for "Witchi-Tai-To" (from October 5 - 11, 2003).
  11. Rap/Hiphop has been in a rut for years, and most of its performers know little or nothing about music in general. For cutting-edge music, one must usually look elsewhere.

    Gato Barbieri

I really like his first three Flying Dutchmans: "The Third World", "Fenix", and "Under Fire". Another notable earlier appearance for Gato (and also for Carla Bley btw) is on Gary Burton's "A Genuine Tong Funeral".
  13. Because of a little snafu at my local post office, I could not pick up "This Is The Place" till this morning. I've listened to this fine collective effort twice (so far), and it's growing on me. I hope to share some of my impressions after I listen to it some more. There's plenty of tasty music played very well by all. Congratulations and thanks!
  14. I preordered early in April. I live just around an hour up 127 from Lansing. I sure hope that "This Is The Place" arrives at my place tomorrow.
  15. Conrad, I'm very sad to read about your mother's passing, but her pain and struggle is over. Thanks for your eloquent and heartfelt account. My thoughts and best wishes will continue to be with you as you deal with this.
  16. I was ready to give up on "Six Feet Under" last season, but my wife wanted to watch it. This season has been much better: less sensational and more motivated.
  17. Charlie Haden, Jan Garbarek, Egberto Gismonti - "Folk Songs" Jan Garbarek - "Afric Pepperbird"
  18. Lou Gehrigs disease? Seriously, I don't think that "A Love Supreme" is overrated, but, as Jim Sangrey implied, 'tis a pity when its well-deserved status keeps folks from appreciating other valuable works by that quartet. I think that "First Impressions"and "Crescent", for example, rank right up there.
  19. Well I think he is. We'll find out next season.
  20. Yeah, Larry Brown undermined the Pistons so much that they almost repeated! (I've never bought into this Larry Brown media melodrama). I sure hope that Joe finds a coach who's at least half as good as LB. I'm not very optimistic at this point.
