  1. I felt like flagging his death up at the time but thought perhaps it wasn't the place. The one constant through all the obituaries was that although most never met the man they felt they'd lost a friend. He was one of a kind...
  2. here's how you can all catch up with the greatest Welsh band of all time(sorry Budgie!)-nice greatest hits for christmas
  3. Just read that this 6CD treat has a release date in the UK of next September...so expect it sometime time in 2006 then...
  4. Just had a look at the Q & A on Pat's site-he states his intention of getting together with Ornette and going through the tapes(this was Dec 03)for a special release-also that the sessions were filmed too!Fingers crossed then for a double CD with DVD too
  5. Great news,I hope PM keeps his word...and reissues them in order of release. As for the rest of the catalogue, there's no rush Anyone have any Ornette news?I see from the Harmoldic site that there's a live set from 69 coming out, label unspecified.

    Song X

Just noticed this is listed as forthcoming on Amazon but no date set. Does anyone know if this a straight reissue or will we get the rest of the session, which Metheny once said was far more "out" and he'd like to see released too.
  7. Garbarek also played with Brahem on Madar(ECM 1515)along with Shaukat Hussain again-if Ragas does it for you then you should like this one too...then of course there's the two sets he did with Shankar from the 80's-Vision and Song For Everyone(Don Cherry did some gigs with J.G. and Shankar but sadly didn't record)and the sublime "Making Music" by Zakir Hussain with Mclaughlin and Hariprasad Chaurasia. He also played on a couple of tracks on Trilok Gurtu's "Living Magic"
  8. This is nice, from 99.Carter plays baritone and bass clarinet on 4 tracks-and the rest of the band are based around Ron Miles' group of the time.As far as I know he's released nothing since...too busy playing polo possibly. As for Bruce,he played a gig nearby last year under the heading of Legends of Rock with the "legendary" Glenn Hughes,Michael Schenker,Ulrich Roth and some others,so legendary they have passed into myth!I stayed well away
  9. Can't say I'd get worked up about this-what "reunions" have delivered the goods after a long lay off? I'd rather Ginger make a follow up to the excellent "Coward Of The County",if he can get off the polo pitch!
  10. Thanks Bev,I've quite a few sideman appearances by Sulzman with Wheeler mainly-and you answered my reservation re. the mid-atlantic thing.Think it'll end up in the shopping basket!Ta for the jazzcds link too, will give them a look.
  11. Anybody sway me one way or the other on this one?
  12. Way back I remember reading about the Dead and thinking "This band is for me",but...when I got the audio I was left pretty underwhelmed, caught some live stuff on TV(not the greatest medium for concerts I must admit),still nothing.Since then I've tried again and well,OK,but they just don't click with me big time.Maybe this is influenced by the knowledge that I'd need to remortgage the house if I got it bad,or maybe I ain't taking the right drugs! At the risk of offending Deadheads further I do like David Murray's "Dark Star" tribute set
  13. Sorry but I'm one of those who can't think of any Ornette I don't like-some great interpretations around(why aren't there more?)-of the later material I love Paul Bley's version of Latin Genetics on Memoirs(Soul Note)
  14. I think this trio have got stronger with each set-plenty more great Morricone themes out there-Vol.3 please!
  15. I can see what they want me to see but not what I want to see...search functions resolutely fail to launch no matter how much I try. Anybody archive the old site? : : : :
  16. I seem to recall Cosey replacing Bill Frisell in the Power Tools trio with Melvin Gibbs and Ronald Shannon Jackson back in the late 80's.Must have been a blast live tho to the best of my knowledge they never recorded.Anybody know what RSJ is doing these days?
  17. Honest Jon's was my fave in the capital during the 80's,Mole was pretty underwhelming after it's last move, not surprised it's had to move again-must check out what Ray's is like in its new home when I can afford a trip to the big city.Shame tho' that London can't sustain a dedicated jazz store.
  18. I think they held back initially on the post 70-75 stuff, there's obviously the material for it but perhaps Sony thought are there the buyers?Yes, please...but keep that 80's stuff locked in the vaults
  19. Would I be right in thinking this is the last of the Miles boxes?
  20. Looks like the September release date will knock the Cellar Door sets back a bit...must say I'd prefer they came first.
  21. ...and the AMG doesn't list a CD no.,Fantasy e-mailed me once and said they had no plans to reissue it on CD,but maybe they meant for the 1st time, and missed the bit where I requested did they have any left! Thanks for opening up this possibilty, and then guess I'll have to get the LP or tape and transfer it.
  22. That would explain a lot,but the Penguin Guide listed it as such a few volumes back and commented on how much the sound had been improved by the transfer. They do make mistakes tho'...
  23. Been looking for this for a good while, found LP and cassette copies but no CD.Anyone out there seen one or have one gathering dust?
