  1. I was listening to The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady and at 5:26 into track 4 it sounds like Mingus says "God dam it". Listen to the track and tell me what you hear. Am I hearing this right ? TIA for your input.
  2. I have seen this 2 CD set on ebay and was wondering about the sound quality. I assume this is a bootleg as one seller said it was recorded from the audience. I'm not one to get all worked up over bootleg stuff but I am a Mingus freak. TIA for your input on this one.
  3. Thanks to you all for the good words on this set. My kids are thoughtful but my wife is the one who gave them the idea. I am a lucky man. Counting the days...
  4. The other day a package was left on my porch. It was marked from Mosaic but I did not place the order. My wife informed me that my kids went together and ordered the set for fathers day. Every day I see that package on the kitchen table. Fathers day is a few weeks away and I'm chompin' at the bit to spin these disks. Anyone have this set? What's your take? Counting the days...
  5. Don Ellis "AUTUMN" a wonderful ebay find. $1.25 plus shipping and it's in mint condition. I love this stuff !---Leftshu
  6. LMCHM was my first exposure to Mingus back in the early 70s. At the time I did not understand what a special record this was. Through the years I would spin this record to discover just how great this recording really is. I guess I had to mature enough to get what was going on and now I get it ! It took me 30+ years but now I get it. I Have been on a Mingus quest the past 6 months. With each new record I have been able to expand my understanding of this unique artist. LMCHM is a great body of work by an American Master.---Leftshu
  7. Thanks for the heads up Quincy . I'll check that out .---Leftshu
  8. Anyone out there have a copy of Mingus "Moves" CD on Rhino ? I would like to buy a copy to fill a void in my collection. If you have a copy to sell just post to the personal message board . Thanks---Leftshu

  10. John B , I have a copy "Randy Weston sextet Monterey'66" is this the one you are talking about? It is on the Verve label and was released in 1993 . I would think it is still available. You may want to check allmusic.com . IMHO, a very good live set with guest Booker Ervin . If you have trouble getting this disk let me know.---leftshu
  11. I have enjoyed this disk for many years . One of the better "young lion" efforts, IMHO. Winard Harper really drives the rest with his Blakey like style on drums. Phillip is no slouch on the trumpet , brassy or sweet whatever is needed . Just a very good record of a well oiled jazz machine.---Leftshu
  12. After reading this thread I dug out my copy of "Me and You" . I Have to say you are right on . The sound is outstanding as well as the blowing . Some of the best recorded big band sounds to be heard . Thanks for reminding me just how good this record is. ---Leftshu
  13. I just got this recording today and was blown away by the sound quality and performances . Every cut is a jem . I have to say Rudy nailed the sonics and sound stage . What depth . I also agree that Roger Humphries drumming is a highlite in all the cuts . What a joy to listen to music this good ! ---Leftshu
