  1. bump Anyone? I'll make it worth your while Cheers, Tom
  2. Currently reading: Red Had 8 Linux Bible (trying desperately to finish my senior thesis) Of the sizable backlog I have accrued from visiting used bookstores in boston, I think first up come May (when I get to kiss the thesis goodbye) is Thomas Pynchon's V I read The Crying of Lot 49 and loved it. Go postmodernism. Cheers, Tom
  3. This music is transcendant! This is definately one of my MOST PLAYED box sets. Its neat b/c you get to hear the trio unedited over an extended gig- and these guys are damn consistent. Most of the sets have a similar feel with one or two ballads a few burners and an extended (15 mins +) jam. I believe this was recorded before Keith's battle with CFS, so he plays with tons of energy. Also largely absent (or at least relegated to the background) is his loud orgasmic groaning and high pitched whining... this has never been an issue for me, but it is for some people. so, in summary, get the box... if you are at all into piano trios, this will take up a prime spot on your music shelf. cheers, Tom
  4. Hey all, So, I got into Mosaic just a few months ago... I've purchased the Mobley set which I think is just spectacular. I've also since purchased a second hand Blakey set, which is eqaually as awesome. Alas, however, I missed out on the Sam Rivers set which so many people rave about. The nice folk at Mosaic, however, have agreed to sell me a partial Rivers (discs 1 and 3) + the booklet... the only thing I would be missing is Disc 2. So, if anyone has an extra Sam Rivers disc 2 they would be willing to part with or if someone would be willing to make me a copy, I would be forever in your debt. PM me if you can. Thanks everyone!! Cheers, Tom
  5. Does Stanley Crouch fit the bill? Tom
  6. Jazz Messengers Mosaic set discs 1 and 2 Tina Brooks Back to the Tracks True Blue Minor Move Waiting Game Sonny Clark Cool Struttin Dave Holland Big Band What Goes Around cheers, Tom
  7. In no particular order: Bill Charlap ~I caught his trio at Sculler's in Boston, when an ice storm EMPTIED the place before the second set.... Bill personally invited me up to the seat right next to his piano bench. As much as I love Written in the Stars, that performance knocked me out. His subtlety really shines through when you're sitting 2 feet from the keyboard. Brad Mehldau ~Art of the Trio III, IV, and V stil knock me out. The real deal as far as I'm concerned Keith Jarrett ~I've had to pass on the live shows in Boston the past two years, as they are too pricey for me. Keith's ballad playing hits a soft spot for me, and he plays the blues like the saddest man alive. Kenny Barron ~Live at Bradley's and the duo discs with Charlie Haden and Regina Carter gets lots of airtime around here Jason Moran ~So respectful of jazz tradition that he's willing to put it all aside in the heat of the moment and play whats inside him. Word... Tom
  8. Tina Brooks True Blue Danny Zeitlin/David Friesen Live at the Jazz Bakery Dexter Gordon Complete Blue Note disc 3 Guster Parachute I love these guys, they satisfy my folk/pop jones quite nicely! Cheers, Tom
  9. Former BNBBer checking in... I didn't do a TON of posting at the other site, but this seems cozy. Just the thing to coax me out of my shell. Cheers, Tom
