  1. cool beans - thanks for posting. You're welcome, there are actually a few other good Fela links on there as well if you search around, including this documentary; Fela Kuti - Documentary Part 1/6
  2. Not really for everone but still very cool if you're a fan. Fela in performance (1971) Two more from later on in the decade, maybe even early 80's. Nigeria - African Music Legends - Fela Kuti in Concert 1 Nigeria - African Music Legends - Fela Kuti in Concert 2
  3. It doesn't really look like there is, according to Amazon anyway, the blurb states; Product Description This super-deluxe edition celebrates one of the most remarkable albums in Miles Davis s career and jazz history in general. Originally released in 1970, Bitches Brew became Davis s first gold album. This anniversary 4-disc package offers the original album on CD plus an audiophile vinyl pressing on 2 LPs; previously unissued material including extensive live performances of much of the same music including a DVD of the entire Copenhagen performance from November 4, 1969. Also included is a 48-page 12x12 book, memorabilia envelope, and large fold out poster. However here's a nice clip from Tanglewood to tide you over, :cool: , they sound really good. Here's another one that's pretty cool too. BTW, I see you commented on the bonus tracks, are they really that good/interesting, it's just I've been listening to Bitches Brew a lot over the last few days and finding it a lot more groovy than before, but I always loved the tune "John McLaughlin", is the new/second version an improvemnt?
  4. This set has been selling very well since it was released, it's regularly been on back order, see these previous threads;
  5. Thelonious Monk: The Complete London Collection set is on hold.
  6. PM on the way regarding; Mulligan, Gerry The Age of Steam Artists House 15 cd/dvd package
  7. It's funny but Pepe Renia has asked the Liverpool fans to do the same thing. :wacko: I don't know what it is about this season but the panic button seems to be seeing a lot of action already.
  8. Strange game at St Andrews yesterday, Birmingham's home record is very good, they haven't been beaten at home for a year or something like that but still Liverpool seemed a bit subdued. However some of the reports regarding Torres performance went a bit over the top I thought. Mascherano didn't have a great start for Barca, substituted at half time and they still lost, to a promoted side, at the Nou Camp!!!!
  9. Wow, very nice piece of work there, I haven't gone into it in detail but you seem to have hit the nail on the head there. As anyone who has the 2 Editions knows, the differences aren't huge yet they are somehow significant in terms of the overall listening experience, the Master Sound mix is just easier and more pleasent to listen to, IMHO anyway. Keep up the good work, we expect you to compare and contrast the rest of the album for us and have it on our desk by five o'clock on Friday or else you're fired. :g
  10. The Japanese set SRCS 9118~9 has the original mix. I have the fatboy jewel case version of that one. Cheers, I was listening to the Master Sound version and the Legacy 2 cd set from 1999 and the Master Sound version just sounds a bit mellower, if that's even a word, a more enjoyable listen in general terms. It's funny but the first line in the blurb at the back of the Legacy 2 cd set from 1999 actually says "Given a bright new remix..." Also I'm not sure that "Feio" is all that much to write home about. BTW there is quite a lot of Miles footage from 1969 on youtube, I presume people know this already, but just in case. I'm not sure which mix the original U.S. CD used, but it was flatter than a pancake. According to Enrico Merlin's sessionography at the back of Paul Tingen's book Miles Beyond, it does have the four seconds of keyboard in the middle of "Pharoah's Dance" which disappeared from future reissues. Those Master Sounds are reputed to be very good. Cheers for that, but I think I can live without those 4 seconds. :cool: Also, is it just me or does anyone else find Bitches Brew to be a more enjoyable listen by starting with "sides" 3 and 4 and then going on to "sides" 1 and 2???
  11. I'd still wait until they've played at least 10 games before I'd panic about any team, I mean Everton are in the bottom 3 at the moment as well and Blackpool are 4th, so it's still very early days. Just going on the highlights the Hammers were a bit unlucky, certinly the second goal was a comedy of errors. I think Liverpool really need a win today, Birmingham isn't an easy place to go to though.
  12. Hmmmm... maybe I'll just have to man up and buy the hardback edition then. :unsure:
  13. OK this is kinda giving my brain an owee... The original cd issue of Bitches Brew, the one with the purple border on the cover, is not worth investigating as it is either not very good or not the "original" mix that would have appeared on vinyl, correct? Then there was the original Complete Bitches Brew Sessions 4 cd Box Set from 1998(?)and the Legacy 2 cd set from 1999(?)that included "Feio" as a bonus, ie the first Mark Wilder mix, correct? Now there is this 2 cd and DVD set that has the same mix as the first Mark Wilder mix, with some bonus tracks and single edits that were not on the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions 4 cd Box Set from 1998, correct? I also have a Japanese mini-lp set from the late 90's(I think), the cds themselves are black with gold writing and have MASTER SOUND printed on them, and has the 9118 number on the spine, it seems to be mentioned/discussed here , although not very clearly, so is this edition the original vinyl era mix, or as close as you're going to get??? I'm going to lie down for a while now. P.S. there are some clips from the DVD here.
  14. Do you have the hardback or softback copy btw, if it's the softback does it have an index, pictures? Cheers. It's the paperback, at home so I can't check, but I think yes on an index, no on pictures. I'll look at it again when I get off work. Thanks, I've been wanting to get this for a long time but just never got around to it, and not to say that no index or no pictures would put me off, but the index thing is always handy and it would be nice to see some "new" photographs of Warne, it was another area he was under-exposed in, especially his early days.
  15. And a very odd one in my view. I can't see it having a happy ending. Sorry, did I say it was going to end badly, it's actually started very badly. Gérard Houllier arrives at Aston Villa and leaves them in confusion

  18. Wow, I never thought that Joe Henderson was that way inclined. It's kinda upsetting.
  19. That's good to hear as most of the shops over here in Dublin look like they are just about keeping their heads above water, their stock levels are so low and their jazz/blues sections are pretty much non exsistent, in fact anything that isn't mainstream stuff is ignored.
  20. Roy Brooks and the George Wallington discs are on hold, plus a few new additions. Cheers.
  21. I saw this re-re-re-issue in my local Tower this afternoon and unless I had some weird type of hallucination, again, it says "Remastered from the original 8 track tapes in 1998 by Mark Wilder" on the pack of the slip case. Anyone else that actually has had this in their hands should be able to confirm this, it's printed in a fairly obvious place, bottom left corner. I'm curious about it and the DVD but, it's not one I listen to an awful lot and I can't see myself reaching for the DVD too much either, or was this a particularly good gig???
