  1. I've been playing three new acquisitions: Somethin' Else, Cannonball Adderley (Classic Records 200gm mono reissue) "Autumn Leaves" b/w "Alison's Uncle," Cannonball Adderley (Classic Records 200gm 45rpm stereo 12-inch) Hank Mobley (Classic Records 200gm mono reissue) Thumbs up on all three. I'd never heard this Mobley album before, and I really like it!
  2. Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk (45rpm Analogue Productions issue). This one knocked me off my chair with its sound. Wonderful stuff.
  3. Same here. I've been enjoying my Rega P3 for more than three years now, and I've enjoyed every minute. I put a Dynavector 10x4 Mk II cartridge on it, and the combination delivers beautiful sound. I don't really feel the need to investigate anything "better." Mine is black too. I actually think it's a cool, classic look. And the bright red Dyna cart looks great on it ...
  4. Those Impulse Red/Black labels of the late 60s sound pretty nice ! I have a couple of Pharoah Sanders on that imprint.. They do sound very good, and you can get them for less money than the black/orange originals. I have a handful of Coltrane LPs on the black/red Impulse! label. A few have the Van Gelder deadwax imprint (my John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman and A Love Supreme), and a few don't (the Ellington/Coltrane one, and Coltrane). But they all sound really sweet in that trademarked analog way. The Love Supreme, in particular, which is close to NM condition, is one of my most prized jazz LPs. I think I'll play that one tonight!
  5. Last night I enjoyed Duke Ellington & John Coltrane ... Impulse red/black-label late-'60s "Bell Sound" pressing (not a Van Gelder, unfortunately ... sounded quite lovely, though).
  6. I just spun (Side 1 of) "Four" and More by Miles Davis (stereo "1A" 2-eye Columbia pressing) ... just getting psyched up for the new box set coming out next month. I particularly love the take of "So What" that opens this LP.
  7. Sales tax was suspended for one day today here in Massachusetts, so I decided to hit one of my favorite CD stores ... and I was very pleased to find a used copy of the Plugged Nickel box for just $69.99. It looked like new, so I grabbed it. I'm quite excited; I've been putting off this purchase for a few years. Off to the CD player!
  8. Broke? I'm pretty much already there; it's just a question of what's getting next week's money. Thanks for the links, I'll definitely do some reading up around here.
  9. Well, being a guitarist myself, I suppose I should check it out at the very least. Thanks!
  10. I don't know Christian's music. Is it a must-have??
  11. Yeah, I'd seen that at Amazon ... $76 isn't so bad. Then there's the shipping though ... and at that point I wonder if the difference is worth going the used route for. (Tower is offering free shipping in addition to the sale prices right now.) In any case, thanks for the info (and the welcome).
  12. Hi all, I'm a big Miles fan, but I still don't have the Plugged Nickel box in my collection. Tower's current online sale has it priced at $97 and some change. Does anyone know if there's anywhere I can do better without going used? Thanks folks! Jeff
