  2. Yeah, thanks. I certainly cut it fine this time. From a jolly swagman, sat under the shade of a coolibar tree perchance? ... I'm just a bit worried that my address in the UK could be a problem after the Ashes!
  3. Nice one Bob. I also managed to find a Freddie Slack in Australia at a decent price. Fingers crossed.
  4. If I had known, I would have bought one for you, Bob. I managed to grab the Washington and the Donaldson before they disappeared... I guess you have most of the music on LPs though.
  5. The Freddie Slack is the only one I am missing and I am trying to find one now... No luck so far.
  6. Out of interest, are you choosing the "US Air Mail" option or "UPS International"? I haven't happened to order from Mosaic since the company dropped DHL, but I always went for the courier option because it was quicker, Royal Mail wasn't involved and the package had to be signed for, plus it cost the same anyway. I went for UPS International and it was delivered by Parcelforce and not by Royal Mail as I originally thought. So I do apologise to all the Royal Mail posties who read this forum everyday... Not too sure what option is best but it's a real drag to have to beg for a replacement even if Mosaic customer services are always fantastic. I now find myself with quite a few battered Mosaic boxes and creased booklets but I guess I will be able to sell these empty boxes for $300 dollars each in ten years time.
  7. Hopefully that doesn't mean sitting and collecting dust. I'm still deciding this one. Hmmm, I've had just the opposite experience. I'm actually glad Mosaic doesn't use DHL anymore and gives you the option of USPS Priority Mail instead. I've got a whole cubicle wall full of black box covers as remnants of battered parcels that I sheepishly had to ask Mosaic to replace, sometimes more than once per order. Two-day DHL from Stamford to San Diego was notoriously bad (at least for me). On the bright side, my cube looks kind of cool and is the model for our department! Here we go again with USPS. This is now the third parcel I've received from Mosaic that is in bad condition. These guys (or our guys at Royal Mail) must have been playing football with Anthony Braxton and Johnny Mercer! The outer box is in dire condition, as well as two corners of the booklet. Even the inner tray is battered. As usual, Mosaic have kindly agreed to send me a replacement box but I feel more and more embarrassed having to ask for this. I did mention to Mosaic that sticking 'fragile' signs on parcels wouldn't go a miss.
  8. I hope you had a nice one, Bob! Very happy birthday from Bristle...
  9. Just ordered it. No brainer - once the NY to Bognor packet steamer has arrived it'll be on my racks too in a jiff.. By the way, it seems that surface shipping is now the best option with Mosaic for the UK and for small orders. My last two orders shipped Airmail and took nearly three weeks to reach me. What a shame Mosaic don't work with DHL any longer. USPS are no way near as good as DHL and my last parcel arrived in poor condition. Mosaic kindly agreed to replace the boxes that arrived all battered.
  10. No dilemma here. This one has been sitting on my shelves for a while....
  11. I have never seen any ripoff sets of these series but I think that the person who sent me that email was referring to similar types of 'best of' sets they find it difficult to compete with. French supermarkets are now full of those extremely cheap sets of 5-10CDs and they appeal to people who don't care much about booklets or sound quality. I am not surprised that Le Chant du Monde are feeling the pinch.
  12. Musicians struggling with timing can't be that good anyway!
  13. I hadn't realised there was a cricket thread here! Although I am not a huge fan as there is no culture of cricket in France, I have enjoyed watching the last match of the series and I am chuffed England beat the Aussies. What a beautiful performance from Stuart Broad. But have you ever seen a more arrogant muppet than Flintoff?!! I didn't know that guy until last week but never before in my life had I felt this irresistible need to punch somebody's face! His body language and his silly postures when celebrating really made me cringe. Is this guy really a national hero? If it is the case, no wonder that English sportsmen have got the reputation of being arrogant. Anyway, it's nice to see the whole country delighted and elated by the victory. Next stop: Football World Cup? Come on France and England!
  14. I got in touch with 'Le Chant du Monde' who produce these little gems. I congratulated them for the high standard of their work and I also asked them about a 1958 set. Here is their answer. I have tried to translate in my best English. I hope it comes across fine. We are currently facing huge difficulties carrying on with the series. Our problems are not editorial as the 1958 currently exists at the state of project of 15 CDs and once again Jean Schwarz and André Francis have made wonders. We are struggling with the price. All our sets sell for 39 euros. There is no way for us to lower the cost as we have to pay the producers and people owning the copyright (authors, composers and artists). The psychological barrier of 39 euros not to be crossed prevents us from illustrating our booklets as we would like to (photos copyrights have become extortionate and even the most ancient documents now belong to agencies who charge us a fortune to publish them. The sales numbers of 'Les tresors du jazz' have been acceptable up to the fourth set but they have plummeted since because of the mass imports of sets that look identical coming from China or Italy with no booklet (which you can't tell until you open the box). These countries do not pay copyrights and only have to meet the cost related to the making of those sets. Those boxes sell for about 10 euros. Nowadays, retailers tend to refuse to stock and sell our boxes for more than a month after their release and, as a result, our sales have been divided by ten! We really don't know if we will be able to carry on with the series in those conditions. We are currently trying to rethink the presentation of those sets in order to distinguish ourselves from those cheap products which have recently invaded supermarkets and stifled the market. Best wishes.
  15. Tell me where you are sitting. I'll wave at you! I booked some Bath concerts today: Saturday Portico Qt + Bojan Z Jerusalem Quartet (Haydn, Bartok and Debussy...hope I'm not required to wear a dinner jacket!) I shall be joining the party...

  17. Very interesting programme on Radio 4 with an interview of Andy Sheppard on John Coltrane's life and his Giant Steps period. I guess the whole thing will be available on podcast.
  18. I am looking for this title. I have a few titles from the same label to trade or I would be happy to pay by Paypal. Thanks.
  19. I didn't watch West Ham - Stoke but it wasn't a good game according to what I read in the press. World Cup games are usually more entertaining especially in the knock out stages because the losing team is out of the competition. In a league, the team playing away is often pleased with a draw which means that these games are often more tactical. Also, these two teams are not among the best ones in the English league. They are not the most attacking teams either. Try to watch the Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona. It should be a great game with some really amazing players on both sides.
  20. Another for 'Speakin' m y Piece' and 'On the Spur of the Moment'.
  21. I confirm that 'indisponible ce jour' means that it out of stock or possibly OOP in that case.
