Would have liked a game 7 Hawks/Wild
Hawks have had the good fortune in recent years to get the right bounce at critical moments for game/series ending goals.
-
Good stuff....NHL game 7's are hard to beat!
Montreal shouldn't be giving Boston such a hard time, but they are so full of grit....look like kids against men as the B's just dwarf them at times.
Love King Henrik....go Rangers!
-
Kopitar has points in all 9 playoff games.

I don't know what the NHL is doing....Pens/Rangers 2nd half of a back to back in the playoffs? WTF?
I think they had another one in the last round.....

Hockey stinks.
I'll be back into it tomorrow, but tonight calls for serious drink and rabid railings against the Sharks who choked one away again.
To get off to the lead they built and lose this miserably outscored 16-5 and 0-15 on the power play in the last 4 games is the equivalent of folding like a $2 shotgun. None of the Sharks so-called top players contributed on the losses while all or most of the L.A. for_real top players contributed throughout and took over as the Sharks were collapsing.
My condolences to Sharks fans, but was this choke really a surprise? Honestly, once LA got the series back to 3-2 I assumed they'd take the next 2. And there's obviously a history of playoff underachieving on the SJ side (if I wanted to be really obnoxious I'd dig up a YouTube clip of the infamous "Marleau bunny-hopping the slapshot" incident...).
TD....I guess only you and Nostradamus knew ahead of time

Nobody could have expected a Sharks sweep of the Kings, but they [sJ] put up a decent game against a desperate and veteran team. Too many trips to the penalty box.... Sharks have the only road win out of all the Western Conference games thus far. It would behoove them to wrap tomorrow and not stretch this thing out.
Bruins game at Detroit was terrific....have long admired Iginla who got the winner in OT.
Brutal brain_fart from Penguins goalie Fleurry the end of last game casually wandering out of the net allowing essentially an empty net goal with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, and the soft goal allowed in OT.

I thought he was the owner of Palo Alto Records, but Wikipedia says the owner was Jim Benham and Dr. Wong was the artistic director.

Having met him on several occasions since moving to the Bay Area, so very dedicated and enthusiastic about the music for a very long time; a class act and very warm & friendly gentleman. An icon who will be sadly missed.....
article on Dr. Herb Wong previously unpublished, I've been told.

Best sports tourney on the planet is underway!
Numerous overtime games the first night...
Anaheim predictably up 2-0 as well as the only Canadian entry Montreal.
2nd night Detroit gets the only tally in what has to be considered an upset, though the flu bug disrupted the Bruins locker room.
Colorado ties it's game with 12 seconds in regulation, then wins in OT.
That just scratches the surface!

The recent [within the last couple of years] duo recordings on IPO with Eddie Daniels are terrific

Beautiful band. I came to them in the late 70s off the back of Towner's 'Solstice' album - 'Out of the Woods' was quite widely available over here where their earlier records had vanished if they'd ever been around outside the metropolitan centres.
They are probably too pretty for the more hair shirt jazz aficionado. But I've always found their melodies very strong, balanced in with improvisation and a real sense of tonal colour. I enjoy their more recent records too, where the synth is held in check rather more than in the early ECMs.
I agree wholeheartedly....a beautiful band, having caught onto them early on, both on recordings and in concert.
No arguments from me on what they're NOT.

I like them all except Buddy Rich and they are all the foundation of this music but one guesses that nothing matters much for the past 40 years.
Same as it ever was for most.
Fwiw I loved Birds of Fire when I was 20 and I think Cobham on that record and Jack Johnson plays with a rare fire and new invented groove.
I've never been tempted to want to listen to him on anything recorded since that time.
However Mr. Reynolds, and not surprised by that take, it is the West Side Story album and Buddy Rich is nothing short of a MF on that date, which is probably why it was chosen.

The Ducks, who could not be caught, have been caught! First place in the Pacific!
I was at the game....best/most exciting Sharks game I've attended!!

Hockey players and teams are for the most part the class of North American sports by leaps & bounds.
This happened last night....

Anaheim [1 game in hand] had a 13 point lead in the standings mid-January now tied with San Jose in the Pacific.
L.A. lost tonight after 8 wins in a row improved since the trade deadline.
Best record in NHL St.Louis got better with the addition of goalie Ryan Miller.
Home stretch last 15 games should really exciting, before the chase for the cup!

Rich Peverley collapsed while on the Dallas Stars' bench tonight. The game against the Columbus Blue Jackets was postponed as a result. Must be pretty serious.
The NHL released the following statement: "Dallas player Rich Peverley is doing well and is in stable condition. He has been transported to the hospital. As a result of the emotional state of the players on both teams caused by the medical emergency, the game is being postponed.
-
Though relatively few saw it, the last game to wrap-up in the NHL tonight with the Penguins visited San Jose one of the most entertaining games of the year as the Sharks prevail 5-3 after being down 2-0 early.
Sidney Crosby goes -5 for the first and only time in his career.

Does the NFL draft get followed by CFL_ers in order to figure who may come North for those not drafted or late rounders who may get a better chance to play and such?

Stanley Cup opponents to be decided today.
Rangers awaiting the winner of Kings/Blackhawks game 7 today.
3rd consecutive 7th game for L.A.
I believe I heard that the 21 games played thus far ties a record for most games played prior to playing for the cup.
NHL game 7's rarely disappoint....
20 years ago [ last time the Rangers skated the cup ] I was out here in Cali preparing to move here and watched them win at a sports bar with many many other NY transplants celebrating.
On the trip home watched the Knicks loose game 7 of the NBA playoffs in an airport awaiting a flight change.
