Phil Woods & European Rhythm Machine ------Live at Montreux 72---------(Pierre Cardin,France)

Very strong rhythm section risks eclipsing Phil. Phil plays lots of notes but seems perhaps a little directionless. None the less the whole effect of the band is pretty compelling especially Gordon Beck on piano who seems inspired.

Good one.

Now,

Seam - Headsparks - (City Slang, GER)

Good album. Now I'm getting nostalgic for the music of my youth! Maybe I should pull out "umber" by Bitch Magnet tonight ;)

Hah, yeah Bitch Magnet are great. Saw their reunion tour come through NYC a couple years ago. Star Booty (Roman Candle OG) was on deck earlier today as well.

Now:

Evergreen - s/t - (Hi-Ball)

strong, strong post-punk from Louisville's heyday with Britt Walford on drums.

Haven't heard that one in about 15 years!

A couple of African singles:

Fela Kuti and His Koola Lobitos - Se e Tun De/Waka Waka (Kalakuta Sunrise). A reissue of an early Fela record from the 1960s.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Lonyaka/Mama Lo (Motella). An original South African single from 1972, in a cool sleeve from Zebra Record and Tape Sales in Johannesburg. I couldn't find a picture of this particular record, but it's identical to the Motella single above, except for the song title, of course.
