Joe Newman ------The Happy Cats---------( Vogue/ Coral)

Decent modern arrangements by Quincy Jones and Ernie Wilkins . Mainly Basieites with Johnny Acea and Connie Kay the exceptions. The Basie feel is limited with the proceedings sound more modern in the whole. Lovely date. Recommended.

Found some great stuff at the local record store yesterday (maybe no "diggers gold" or something regardings their pressings, but all albums I didn't have yet and all still in good quality) so these where on the turntable yesterday:

John Coltrane - First Meditations (for Quartet) [Impulse!]

Old and New Dreams - Playing [ECM]

Had a Japanese press of that Jym Young LP many years ago but got rid of it because it didn't really do much for me.  I'll have to dig out my CDR some day and see if my ears are more receptive to it these days!

Tonight's spins:

Kenny Burrell "on view at the five spot" (Blue Note, 47 w 63rd mono)

Takeru Muruoka "Takeru" (Philips, Japan)

Bobby Bradford / Frode Gjerstad / Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten and Frank Rosaly - recorded the day before Silver Cornet.

how does it compare? I don't mean which is better but rather  does it have a different feel , mood or style etc.  I'm impatient to know as my copy hasn't arrived yet.
